aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

wolf

She was surprised when she had wandered out of her den. What had made her come out, she had no idea. Perhaps it was the natural will to live that all animals had, even when all they wanted was to die. Heavy stilts carried the femme through her home as her head hung lowly down, as if it was too heavy for Chenzii to hold it up. She never thought that she would feel this way again, never thought that she could be hurt again after he had already left her once. Shouldn’t she be used to the pain by now? Used to the suffering and torture that plagued her? She should just expect for the rest of her life to be the living hell that it was now. To be endless days of pain and emptiness.

Water. Water was the only thing on her mind right now. Not the pain and sadness that threatened to overwhelm her. Not the hot bubbling anger that threatened to spill over and cause her to go mad. Not the disappointment and grief that walked with her. Water, thirst, that’s what she was focused on right now and that, she realized, is what drove her out of her den. It was as if her body was acting on its own, like her pillars were walking her to the river without her brain’s consent. But that’s what the black ess needed right now. To not think, to just act, or else she would not survive. Right now her mind seemed blank, with nothing but the thought of water running through her head. When the femme reached the river she reached down to drink, pulling the water into her mouth quickly with her long pink tongue. She wasn’t paying attention to anything around her, no scents reached her nares, no sounds reached her audettes, and she didn’t lift her head to look around.

Suddenly she felt tired, as if she had just returned from a fight or been out on a large hunt, when in reality she had been on a walk that normally took her less than 5 minutes. But her legs were shaking and her body felt too heavy to hold up and before she could collapse she lay down, curling herself into a ball that had become her customary position, as if the tighter she curled around herself the more likely it was she could keep herself together. Chenzii continued to ignore the world around her, something that would have become very dangerous if she was not safely within the territory of her home. The black femme began to doze in and out, not quite sleeping but not quite conscious to the world around her.

It was due to this that when another form came above her and said her name that she jumped, pulling out of her ball-like form in an instant and lifting her head, but not rising to her paws, as if she was too weak to do so. It took her yellow orbs a moment to focus, to look at the femme above her and realize who it was that was speaking to her. She was now awkwardly sprawled out, with her front legs in front of her but her back legs still tucked in at her side. She shook her head for a moment, as if to clear it and try to focus in on what was going on around her. Magic. That’s who it was that was talking to her. One of her best friends, her best friend really when she thought about it. Chenzii saw Magic’s mouth move, as if she was speaking, but the words did not register with the black femme sprawled out on the ground, as if she was stuck in a fog. Her orbs watched as her friend lay down next to her, her belly and side touching along her back in a comforting way, but once again Chenzii jumped, as if she did not know the femme was there. It was the physical contact that pulled the ess back to the present that made her focus on what was actually happening around her. Her matted and disheveled fur looked even worse next to Magic’s well-kept and shining black pelt.

The final words magic spoke finally reached the femme’s ears and brain, Tell me what you need and I will get it for you.” Her yellow orbs stared dumbly at her friend. What she needed? Did she need anything? She had no idea. What could she need? Confusion was clear upon the girl’s face as it took her a moment to register what the words meant. ”I…I” Words seemed to fail her for a moment and her voice cracked. She couldn’t remember the last time that she used her vocals and it was as if she was speaking for the first time again. ”I don’t know what you mean…don’t know what I need…I..I don’t know Magic.” She mumbled and stuttered, as if she did not know how to speak. Once again her yellow orbs filled with tears, and she didn’t even know why this time. She turned her head away, not wanting her friend to see the pools that were beginning to fill and threaten to spill over. Her weakened frame began to shake. What she needed was a friend, but she didn’t know how to ask, how to tell Magic this, but really her friend was already there.
