Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

And the light shineth in the darkness;
................... and the darkness apprehended it not. *John 1:5*

The scenery becomes less compressed as the woodlands thinned into a small open area. The rabble of a nearby burn (I'm reading a scottish story, can't help myself :)) made her ears twitch and instinctively her tongue caressed her top golden lips. It was a rather warm day when it came down to it. Plus being in the company of Amoxtli seemed to make her warm beneath her fur. It would do nicely to have a bit of a cool drink but she dipped her head to the side in slight confusion as he stops in the middle of the opening and tells of Coza's absence. Well, she thinks, there is no den here so surely he is not nearby. Maybe Amo was confused. Maybe he got sidetracked by her rambling and was lost and was trying it hide it beneath the nonchalance. She did not really know that some wolves slept outside with the exception of loners. There certainly couldn't be as many empty dens as there were lone wolves roaming around the countryside. But in a pack everyone had to have a den in her mind. It was where she was born, where she had survived, and it seemed to her an incontrovertible fact of life. Yet the scattered pelts and a few bones, not unseemly, seemed to agree with the idea that was forming in her skull.

Once more Amo begins to talk. He is more comfortable in his skin when he talks of family. His words do not stutter and stop as they did before. Honestly he had a lovely voice that seemed to wrap around her and lull her into a sense of serenity. She couldn't let her guard down though. She might actually say something completely niave and stupid if she did so and thus she remained ever alert. The foreign word slipped across his tongue causing her ears to prick once more from where they had fallen in her content manner. She does not stop him from his speech however; she assumes, hopefully correctly, that he is speaking of his father. The word is fluid and she wishes to repeat it, to master it, but only gives in to opening her jaws.

The way he whispers as if such is a secret is worth her ears makes Shiloh grin. She bet Isola could beat Kane if she tried; her mother was a fierce thing as was her father. "You look pretty strong too. I wonder if I could beat you?" The words tumble out before she catches them. For only a brief moment she seems stunned to have said them but they are already out there in the air. What was the point in taking it back? So she puffs up with a daring grin and lifts her tail to make herself even bigger.

Ah so shy he is, once more stuttering. It is so endearing, she thinks! The idea of anyone making fun of him for it actually made her want to raise her hackles. Amo was nice and kind. If someone did that then they were fools and she didn't take kindly to fools. Or so she thought but who knew seeing as she was only two years of age. "Of course! I'd love to show you around!" Ack! How overly eager she sounded. It made her nervous, this fluttery feeling she felt, and she glanced away abruptly towards the stream.

With a huff as if she just wasn't sure what to say she left his side and stopped at the edge of the shallow water to lean down and sweep the cool contents into her mouth. It helped. The water made a cooling sensation down her throat and to her stomach, easing the ache of embarrassment and childish uncertainty. What better way to change the subject though with her next decision. Withholding a mischievous grin as much as she could she walks back to him, acting as if she is looking at the pelts before suddenly darting the last few feet right at Amoxtli. "Look out!" She lifts upwards as she grows close to him, intending to wrap her forelegs around his neck and yank him down with her weight - hopefully to flip him over. It is all in fun, as revealed with her flashing grin, a test that she had hinted at earlier. Whatever had come over her now she sure hoped he wouldn't get mad at her. Friends did such things and maybe, just maybe, Amo was her friend.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
