and the rest is rust and stardust

Pilar did not blame Dia in taking her time getting here—after all there were lots of important things to worry about when it came to raising children. Sokka needed to be strong enough to make the trip, which by now it certainly seemed he was, and the weather could not pose any sort of threat to either of their safety. She nodded at Dia in agreement that the hurricanes had been particularly arduous this season. She was thankful to find the caves to hide out in during the worst of them. Fortunately, as the summer winded down they had been lucky to experience an extended bout of sunshine.

As her eyes flicked to Sokka, Pilar admired how Dia had already taught him his manners. So many colts were allowed to romp around like brats, getting away with whatever mischief they could drum up, that meeting a young one who wasn’t a hell-raiser was a breath of fresh air for Pilar.

“Nice to meet you Sokka,” Pilar offered with a polite smile. He would definitely be a very handsome stallion one day.

“Oh it’s been good,” Pilar continued, settling in to share the latest with her friend. “Our herd is small but everyone is friendly. We have been getting a fair amount of other visitors too. Midas came back for a bit, but he must have left again as I haven’t seen him lately. And another stallion named Dragon. Do you know him too?”

It was curious how stallions seemed to come and go so often. Pilar was thankful Kasabian stuck around at least. Dia had been so helpful before; maybe she could offer her insight again.
