You’re Mine as I’m Yours Heart

_________________________________________________________________________

A choice had finally been made. She would leave, go on her own, make a life of her own. For her whole life she had lived with her old pack, if it could even be called a pack. Really it was just a group of wolves that decided to live together, with no leaders and no rules. Fights stayed between those involved, there was no “higher power” that came in and intervened, no alpha to tell them what to do. And that was just fine with her. There were some who were respected more than others, that if they did need some sort of leadership would step up and help organize them as much as their group could be organized, which was in fact very little. There were other make-shift packs like them, small groups that hunted together and slept together, but the biggest difference was that there were no ranks and no alphas where she was from. The groups often quarreled and so the pups that were born were raised from the beginning to be warriors. Even though there were no alphas did not mean that they did not have lands that were theirs, theirs and no one else’s, and those lands needed to be defended.

Ygritte was one of the many warriors that had been trained, but she had been one of the very few females that had stayed with the group that she had been born into. They had unique courting rituals that Ygritte did not like and so she had not found a mate and had stayed with her father and mother. Where the femme came from the males would steal a female away, usually forcibly, and take her back to the male’s group or go find a new one entirely. The females weren’t supposed to stay in the group they had been born into, they only stayed until some brute came and took them away. It would sound barbaric and awful to some, but there was an interesting feeling that came with being stolen away, that you were the most beautiful or the most powerful or the strongest that they just had to have you. A thought that in a way was appealing to the fiery colored ess. The biggest flaw with this was that Ygritte was not interested in any male taking her away, she was interested in a female taking her away, or herself taking a female away. Men had often tried to take Ygritte but she had left them running and bleeding from her, not letting any of them take her in any way. When the femme had first told her group that she lusted for a lupine of her gender and not the more obnoxious and annoying males no one had cared. Really who was there to tell her she could not be that? There was no alpha to tell her to let a male have her or leave. And the lupines in her group knew how fierce she could be and if anyone tried to change her thoughts she would leave them with some new scars to think about. Ygritte would not let anyone tell her how to behave or what was the correct way to be, Ygritte was just Ygritte and that was all that mattered.

And so for the first time Ygritte had decided to leave her group and see how some other lupines functioned, maybe find a new home or wander for a few years as a loner. She didn’t have a plan and she was fine with that. Plans often went wrong so what was the point of planning? The femme had discovered that being spontaneous had produced better results than planning had ever done. So with thoughts of freedom and the prospect of a new life she had left her parents and her group. They had been sad to see her go, she was the strongest fighter that they had, but they would survive without her. And if they didn’t well then that was the natural order of things, not everyone survived. But Ygritte would, Ygritte would always survive and she would ensure that those she chose to care over lived as well.

After a few weeks on her own she decided to travel to new lands called Blossom Forrest that her parents had told her about. The wolves in her group and the other groups around them knew of other places, other places with packs and alphas and different lifestyles. Ygritte never thought she would want to travel to such lands but more than anything she was curious to see what that lifestyle was like. She was not ready to join a pack, she had no idea how packs truly worked and the thought of submitting to an alpha sickened her. She was her own leader and she did not need some random lupine telling her what to do and where to go and who to attack. The femme laughed out loud at such thoughts, the idea of someone being in charge of her was ridiculous. Her skinny legs carried her quickly through the trees, no idea where she was or where she was headed. She stayed away from areas that had strongly scented borders, assuming they were pack territories, but instead stuck to places where so many lupines had been at that all their scents mingled together. Her walk today took her to a river, a pretty long river where she had scented many lupines. She had walked by many, debating on whether or not she would stop and say hello, maybe make a new friend. But so far no one had caught her interest and she didn’t want to stop.

Her stilts continued to carry her along the river bank, occasionally stepping her paws into the refreshing coolness of the water. It was a warm day and it felt good to cool her warm paws after she had been traveling for so long. The fiery femme was thinking about turning towards the trees and finding something to eat or somewhere to rest for a bit, but then she saw her. A dark colored femme, that was alone near the river. There wasn’t necessarily anything unique about her appearance to make Ygritte pause, but there was something about her, something that made the red femme want to go over and say hello in the seductively sweet voice she knew she had. And so she did just that. She didn’t often think about her actions, just acted on impulse. So within a few moments she was closer to her, close enough to hear her sigh as she sat upon her haunches. Ygritte cocked her head, wondering what could be bothering a femme as beautiful as this one. She was now close enough to see the dark color of the femme’s orbs, to match her dark pelt. A smile appeared on the russet femme’s maw as she approached, nails clicking on the stones as she walked noisily, the opposite of how she would normally walk, but she did not want to startle the femme. When she was only a few feet away she paused and spoke, silky smooth lyrics coming from her maw, ”Hello. My name is Ygritte. I’m new around here. Would you mind if I sat with you?” Most would think that the groups that she grew up would have her acting like some fierce barbarian, wanting to steal away the first pretty femme that she found, but that was not the case with Ygritte. She would much prefer a mate that wanted to be with her and that loved her back, not one that she had stolen. The femme stayed a few feet away, respectfully in case the stranger did not want company. Blue-grey eyes sparkled as she looked upon the black stranger, hoping she would be welcomed to stay with her for a few moments.
