_________________________________________________________________________ The femme was nervous, scared actually. Why did she not make a run for it, why did she stay where she was? Where she was vulnerable? The brute was getting closer and closer as she continued to stay rooted to the spot, frozen in fear as he approached her. The petite femme did not know very many nice males. She did not trust males in the slightest, she felt uncomfortable being in a pack led by a male, but she had done it for Nymeria. She did everything for Nymeria even if her ungrateful little sister didn’t know or realize it. If it had been up to her she would have taken her younger sister and hidden out on their own, away from others, just the two of them. Because the world was not safe, as much as Nymeria believed that it was. There were bad lupines out there that wanted to hurt and them, that wanted them dead. The younger ess thought because they had escaped the evil pack where Lady had been held captive that they were safe now, but she was wrong, so very wrong. Nymeria did not know the extent to which these evil wolves would seek the two of them out, they were more important than the younger femme realized, but Lady knew. Lady had seen the brutality of those that ruled in other packs, knew that they had the power to find the two sisters and end them once and for all. Lady tried to shake the thoughts of these awful and evil lupines from her mind as the male continued to approach. Things seemed to go in slow motion, as if she was thinking faster than normal, more thoughts of fear and dread reaching her while the uniquely colored male got closer. She did not want to think about the one particularly evil male that had caused all of her torment, but his voice and face is what came to her mind when the stranger was near her, so she reacted as she always did around unknown men, submissively, fearfully, hoping that they would not hurt her. Eyes downcast and ears pinned to her head she tried not to tremble around the brute, tried not to show him the fear that was coursing through her. But she was sure that it was obvious and that he could see, and she hated that. She wished she could be strong like her brother Grey Wind or Summer, or even strong like Nymeria, as annoying as she could be. And then he spoke and for some reason his words were kind and made her feel better, feel safer than she expected to feel around the stranger. When Lady spoke, telling Zorion her name he sighed and shook his head and she cocked her head at him, confused by his action. Did she already do something to upset him? And then she was nervous again, worried about the thoughts that would be going through his head. But then he spoke again and confused her more, was he indeed being nice to her? “It is truly an honor that you have entrusted me with your name, Lady. And believe me, the pleasure is all mine.” She blushed again at his words and looked away for a moment unsure of what to say in response. She was not very good at words. Yes she was polite, sometimes knew what was expected to say of her and then she would, even if her feelings were the opposite of the words she would udder. But she had not been forced to say untrue words since she had left the evil pack that had killed half of her family, had not needed to pretend to love someone that she utterly despised. But that was behind her now and she did not want to think about that while she was around a new and also handsome male that actually seemed to be nice. When she turned her head back to him, trying to think of the correct words to say she noticed that he was also looking away, looking out towards the river and he spoke again before she had a chance to choose her words, “It is so beautiful here…” She nodded, knowing that she always needed to agree with others, especially males, but this time she did actually agree with him and was not lying. ”Yessir, it is.” It is silent for a few moments before Zorion speaks again and Lady looks in his direction, ears perked to the sound of his voice. “So tell me Lady, what brings you here – to this place – alone? I am surprised that you are not surrounded by males all trying to win your favor. With your beauty and your grace, you move as an angel does. I’d imagine you would be the center of everyone’s attention.” She laughed, she couldn’t help it, she didn’t mean to be mean but it just sounded so funny to her. Why would males want to pursue her? She was useless and unworthy of others, the last brute she had been with had made that more than clear to her. That she was nothing and would always be nothing. But then fear took over her again, what if he was upset with for laughing and got mad and hurt her now. She immediately began to apologize, hoping he would not be too angry. ”I..I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to laugh. It just sounds so ridiculous. Why would I be surrounded by males, that’s never happened before and I wouldn’t want it to. It would be very weird and I don’t know.” Now she was rambling, rambling was not good. Rambling could get her into trouble. So she paused and took a shaky breath before continuing, trying to settle her nerves. ”I’ve never been the center of attention. I’ve always just been on the side. But as to why I’m here, I just wandered here I guess. I was looking for a place away from my younger sister, to get a little space. A little me time I guess.:” She laughed again, a little more relaxed now before speaking once more. ”How about you. What brought you here?” She looked over at him hesitantly, shyly, hoping that she had not spoken too much. ________________________________________________________________________ |
