Torram gulped. He couldn't help it, not when Sperantia was looking at him so... so... menacingly. She might not have the power, or the physical strength, to do anything right at the moment, but that didn't matter in the face of such a potent glare. Minerva's eyes rolled exaggeratedly at Sperantia's comments, giving Torram a look that clearly expressed her feelings about the cat. Tor pointedly ignored his familiar, earning a huffy click of her beak in reply. Min was clearly torn between replying - a sassy retort no doubt - and deciding Sperantia's comments weren't worth the time or effort. Of course, that would mean Sperantia would "win" and Min wasn't happy about that in the least. Thankfully, Torram had the presence of mind to put a hand over her beak, giving her a glare of his own, so that she couldn't exacerbate the situation further. Torram spoke instead, trying to sooth Sperantia's obvious frustration with the lot of them. He didn't want Sperantia angry with them, not only for the obvious reason that she was a bit intimidating despite her size, but because he truly liked Sperantia and felt he owed her as much for saving his life as he did Mallos. Sperantia didn't seem to be listening, but he could see from her expression that that brilliant mind of hers was hard at work.
Birch spoke next, and the group could see her starting to come around. Or, Torram secretly thought, maybe they just wanted her to come around, so they were seeing what they were hoping for. Sperantia's eyes drifted shut and, aside from the occasional rustle of clothing as Ro shifted in Birch's arms, the room fell silent. They all gaped at her, equal parts confused and curious, as flawless Spanish slipped from her mouth.
"Uh, what?" Torram said, clearly unaware of the earth-shattering realization the cat had just come to. |
