Khasekhemwy peered curiously over Danny's shoulder as he looked in the drawers and cupboards, stepping on the young boy's heels accidentally.

“I don't know what's in those,” he admitted sheepishly, wringing his hands. “I just transferred the innards of my house when I was given this cottage.”

So, in other words, Khasekhemwy had no idea what was in his own house.

He followed Danny around until the latter eventually uncovered a plate, knife and fork from under a pile of tea towels. Khase wrung his hands again and gave his student a small, rather wobbly smile, which was about as close as he ever got to looking encouraging. The smile turned into a rather expectant look. Clearly, the Palestinian deity wasn't used to plating up food any more than he was used to making it.

Once Danny had gotten the message, Khase shuffled to the side to let him work, craning his rather long neck to curiously watch how it was done. Servants or magic, or enterprising students looking for extra credit, always did this sort of stuff. He'd never even had to think about this sort of thing before... by the time plates and forks were invented, he'd already been adept at conjuring most things he wanted. This scary new world without magic was forcing him to have to think about things which weren't normally on his radar. How could anyone cope with this? What a kerfuffle, just for a piece of pie!

“What do you want to learn about today?” He asked unexpectedly, accepting the plate given him and picking up one of the forks Danny had found. There was a great deal of comfort to be had in wielding an object he knew how to use, but the look he gave his student as he nibbled on a piece of pie was still slightly nervous. Apart from their first lesson, when he'd let the boy choose which deity to learn about, he'd never given Danny free reign with his subject studies before. They'd always followed Khase's tightly regulated preplanned scheme of work. “Providing it's relevant,” he added in a mutter. “Within reason.”
