At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Find Me In The Darkness

Home. It was a word she had never thought would find new definition. True, she had affection for her childhood home, but it was not a soft or kind affection. It was affection for her parents… because they had given her life. For her mother, who had comforted Hellene and taught her the trade of herbology. For her father, who had forced her to be strong, swift, a warrior. For the feeling of belonging, trust, and safety. The femme held love for those in her family… but it was love for them for what they had done and who they were. It was love… but it was not what she felt now.

Home now wasn’t so much a place, or a thing, but a who. Home now was not her base camp or her den, where she returned to at night. No, now home was who she returned to at night. The brute in whom she placed all of her trust, to whom she would finally reveal her true self to. The last thing she thought about before she was blessed with sleep, and the first thing she thought about upon being waken. Zev was her home… and it felt wonderful to finally feel whole and completed.

Do not get it wrong, she also felt blessed to find a new pack to reside in. Her parent’s pack, while comfortable and all she had ever known… was no longer right. Perhaps she had outgrown their ideology, where everyone had a single job – a fighter, a spy, a hunter, a healer, a leader… the world at large was not as simple as that, so why should a pack be maintained in such a way? Athene wanted more… and she was more. Her pack and, more specifically, her father, had taught her that she was a warrior. But Zev had showed her that she was also a lover, a learner… who knew what else she could come to be?

After leaving the pack meeting, she had left her new packlands to run once more, but this time she was not running away from her fear, she was running in rejoice of the new path that was now lain before her. Lids slitted to protect her sensitive orbs, she ran full out, limbs stretching so that her pads could reach out and grab the earth, each step pulling her toward her destination. Daggers dug into the earth, leaving small holes in her stead. Though she was small for most femmes, she was swift, fast, and strong. As she ran, the wind pulled at her pelt, slicking it back, but still she sped on recklessly, yet every step was surely placed. The landscape became a blur as she galloped until finally she leapt into the air and for a moment, it felt as though she was flying. Lids closed completely, she bent her joints for the impact of the landing which came sharply, but her bent joints took the shock as absorbers, and she quickly straightened her limbs, standing tall and leaning forward, feeling the whip of the air threatening to push her from her stance. Slowly, opening her lids, she noted that she now stood on a ledge overlooking the cascades. A sheer drop was below her, mere inches from the tips of her claws. Panting heavily, her tongue lolled out and she smiled, the thrill of it all coming over her… until her heart stopped at the sight of Zev approaching the cascades below. Holding her breath, she watched him drink from the liquid before laying beneath a tree that leaned more than she liked.

Smiling, she left the ledge, slowly making her way down the steep, rocky slope that was to the side. Her motions were silently, each movement carefully chosen so as not to lose any gravel or give away her position. When she had reached the bottom of the path, she hunched up her muscles. The ground was too far away for her to make it safely, but there were jutting rocks through which water was rushing, and she jumped from one surface to another, careful not to slip on their surfaces which were slick with wet moss. Slowly, the ground rushed up to her until she could make her way to it. Nonchalantly, she waltzed up to Zev and laid down next to him without a word… instead, she just leaned into him.
