The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

I would never dream of living in a place like this. Who would? It's dank and wet and cold and just plain dirty. This is no place to call home. It's a hole in the wall, somewhere a rat would live. I need to be surrounded by others of my kind, not lost in the darkness where I have to yell at someone to get a little company. She seems annoyed with me, flicking her tail and rolling her eyes. I scowl deeper. I've never liked the whole eye rolling thing, especially when its directed at me. Viora used to do that all the time when I was trying to lecture her about peace and nonviolence and now this?

"I don't know what you just called me but I'm pretty sure talking to yourself is not healthy."

I say matter of factly. I don't like that I didn't know the word she's using. Is it french or something? She narrows her eyes at me and my tail twitches. What's her problem? Hasn't she ever heard of making friends? I scoff.

"Eavesdropping? I'm merely a good listener and your voice fills up the whole cave so it's hard not to hear."

I challenge back with a lift of my head. She does seem to soften some when I tell her my name. I guess that's getting us somewhere at least. She repeats my name and after a couple blinks, I nod to tell her that's how you say it. I didn't think my name needed repeating or anything. It's not like it's hard to say. She then tells me that her name is Antionette and bows her head. I roll my tongue in my mouth. Now that's a mouthful.

"Uh, nice to meet you."

I say out of politeness. I don't think I'm ready to repeat her name just yet. I might need to say it to myself in private a few times first. Then she gives the best idea ever, getting out of the caves. I perk up and wag my tail.

"Agreed!"

I say heartily as she brushes past me. Her tail touches my side and I jump a little with a sharp intake of breath. Did she mean to do that? I'm not used to the whole touching thing. Letting out my breath in a sigh, I follow her out, blinking as the light brightens considerably. Once my eyes have adjusted, I look over at her and smile.

"So...do you live around here?"
