Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies.

She didn’t know him from Adam, didn’t know (or for most intents and purposes care) about his blood line ancient and revered as it may be, and yet here was a rare moment of simplicity. The world is complex, full of its own twists and turns without even mentioning the potholes others could put in the road. It was tiring most days to follow what someone may or may not mean, but this was as easy as breathing. In the oddest way it almost set her on edge but she shoved down the feeling, now was not the time.

Had she known what thoughts he had about her, what he thought he saw in her smiles and way she carried herself she would have almost been ashamed. She had never been the angel her mother wanted her to be, never been able to simply be and set all pretenses aside. There was always some game to play, something worth hiding from the world. She didn’t deserve his praise. Regardless she doesn’t know, happy to sit there smiling as if her scarred personality might someday recover and be whole again. It was fun to pretend, hell it was practically her major.

Sweetling? Now that was a new one. Typically she didn’t respond well to nick names, there were few that could be made out of her name to begin with, much less the colloquial ever day terms for women. It didn’t ruffle her feathers somehow, even yet she almost enjoyed it. Who was this guy?? Despite her distraction she managed to maintain most of her focus as he continued on. The names meant little to her, but she could at least pick up on the topographical differences and the fact that at least two of them were practically polar opposites. Perhaps she would ask for a tour next she thought with a sly smile, that is until he finished up his musings.

The smile withdrew from her features momentarily, her ears dialing back slightly in a mixture of unease and chagrin. It wasn’t often she got called out on her actions, much less turned down on the offer. She managed to meet his eyes again, her pride not allowing her to simply sulk off and lick her proverbial wounds. There wasn’t judgment in those blue depths though, almost a despondent edge there as if it was more his fault than her own. He thought himself ill fit for her? Well he was just full of surprises. Regardless he still wanted to help her and that spoke louder than just about anything he had said. It was almost all too much for her.

In the end she couldn’t sit still anymore. She stood up quickly, giving a hard shake from scruff to tail sending up a cloud of dust from her previous foray. She paced around him for a moment, simply feeling the soft dirt beneath her pads and the wind rustling through her fur. These things were simple and true and constant, why was everything else so damn complicated? She finally caught hold of herself as she rounded his backside pulling up alongside him. She managed to pull herself down to a sit once more, careful that her haunches not touch his own but still leave herself at a close conversational distance, she settled in with a sigh. “I’m not big on staying in one place for too long,” she said finally, the barest twinge of regret trimming her otherwise upbeat tone. “I tend to wander from place to place, it’s hard to put down roots when you feel born with wings.”

Almost without thinking she leaned over and nudged his thick shoulder with her own. He was much thicker than she in size and weight so it wasn’t to make an impression simply her own attempt to shake off the mood that threatened. “It’s a defense mechanism, you know,” it was as close to a confessional as she had ever come.
