Orhan flinched at the voice and performed a quick half-turn in the damp sand to face it. For some illogical reason, he had imagined it was his mother calling him. To his relief, it was only Vesti. With a quiet exhale, the stallion relaxed his stance and offered the mare a tired smile from across the sand.
It was then he realized that this was the closest he had ever seen the chestnut mare to the ocean... and, evidently, it was the closest she would come. Remembering what she had told him all that time ago, his smile faded into an expression of concern. Giving the stunning sunset over the ocean one last glance, Orhan picked up his hooves and trotted the short distance inland to Vesti’s side.
As he neared her, he arched his neck and touched her shoulder, blowing softly onto her warm skin. His dark eyes sought hers curiously. “How are you? Is everything okay?”
