Dead memories of a Legend
Chapter I The life of Voltaire
I deeply miss his presence in Diveen. He wasn’t really by my side all the time when he used to live there, but...I always knew he was there, safe and happy. I could always see him from the cliff, basking in the sun. Now that he is not there anymore, it is always like something is missing. My eyes turn to look at the tree where he and Heyel used to meet sometimes and he is not there anymore. It feels empty. It is always as if something is missing from the pack, something very important and it hurts in me to know what it is.
Devil is important to me and he will always be. He did something terrible to that innocent pup and I know it hurts him to remember such thing, perhaps he will never be able to forgive himself for what happened. I wish I could take this pain away from him, like he does to me. I don’t know if he feels the same way as I do when he… Embraces me. I just wonder if it makes him feel any better. I can only hope it does.
I tried to argue with him, to try and prove to him that he wasn’t so wrong and Isola’s punishment had been too harsh, but. I cannot. The way my muzzle tried to open to tell him and nothing came out. It made me feel terrible, almost ashamed. How can I not defend the wolf I call my own father. My eyes looked into his and he offered a smile. At least, he didn’t feel… Insulted.
When I finally step away, my form is not shaking anymore. There are questions in my head. But those will have to be answered by myself. Something made me keep going all this time. Something kept me from falling apart. So much loss. It still hurts me so much. I will search for answers.
I asked Devil if I could do anything for him, like he did for me. And he answers me with a smile. Keep an eye on his family. He proceeds to tell me that he will be here if I have anything to share or just need someone to vent to. A wag of my tail, showing my gratitude.
- I will look after every single one of them.
I assured him, letting him know that they will be safe, as long as I am still alive. Nothing will happen to them. A hint of determination spark in my eyes. Though I am still so weak, at least I am not lost anymore.
- Thank you, Devil…- my tail wagged -Father… Thank you for everything.
I smile, letting him know how much he helped me.
- I will return to Diveen soon…
I told him. Perhaps he would like to talk a little bit more. And then, by the end of the day, I would be back to Diveen, happy that I could spend time with Devil once more.
