At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

THERE'S NOT A STAR IN THE SKY
THAT SHINES BRIGHTER THAN YOU, MY LOVE

Katia is bored. It’s not an unusual occurrence for the teen, but this time it makes her skin itch and she wants to run. It’s not proper to run, however, so she just sits in the shadow of a massive oak tree and looks at the scars of her grandfather’s claws in the tree. It’s pretty far into the territory, but those are Axel’s talons that left those scars and for some reason, it makes her happy. She’s never met the wolf, heard only a few very short stories about him from Eriel, but she’s always felt like he was watching over her. She goes over her options as she sits there. She doesn’t know where her father is, so he’s out. She doesn’t know where Eriel is either, so her aunt is out of the question. She doesn’t have friends in the pack, a fact that she’s pretty eager to change, so she decides to explore the territory.

Even though she knows every nook and cranny of the land, she still trekked across it all morning until she’s standing at the border. It’s nothing special, she decides as she looks at it. Nothing to say it’s there except for the line of trees with fresh lines through them from her father’s claws and the strong scent of Cold Summers’ members. She stands there for a while and decides, on a moment of courage and adventure, to cross it. She steps over it with ease she didn’t know existed and laughs. The bell sound of her laugh is loud in the quiet forest and it makes more than one bird rise into flight out of fear. Excitement floods her, fills her veins with liquid happiness, and has her running. Her long legs eat up ground and she laughs again and again as the wind tickles her ears. She feels free and decides that she can’t blame Eriel for staying out of the packlands. If she were her aunt’s age, she’d come back once a month and live off the high of excitement she’s feeling now.

She tires herself out pretty soon, so she contains herself to a simple walk. She’s awed by everything she sees and doesn’t realize she doesn’t actually know where she is until the leaves underpaw mix with sand. She keeps walking, curiosity now spiked, and freezes on the edge of the treeline with wide eyes. The kalak girl has never seen such an expanse of sand - or water, for that matter. She prances across the stretch of sand with delight, laughing when it tickles her toes, and heads straight for the water. It’s winter, but it’s warm enough, so she trots straight into the water. She wades in until it brushes her knees and plays until her body complains with fatigue. She yawns a few times as she makes her way out of the water and finds herself a sun-warmed patch of sun. She lays there, content and too lazy to move, and watches eagerly for another wolf.
