Change was an interesting thing. On one hand it was a tumultuous, unpredictable ocean of doubt and fear and worry- and on the other it was something beautiful and refreshing. Often someone would ascribe to one of those two views and be unable to see the other side of it. Viserys wasn't sure what he believed, though the subject was at the forefront of his mind, especially as of late. Aurai had caught the sickness, retreating to some distant corner of the lands so she didn't pass it on to anyone. Without his sister, his best friend, he had become quieter and more withdrawn, often finding himself on his own almost without meaning to. Isolde was kind, but they had never been as close as the pale boy and his wilder sister.
And with spring came pups, and Vis found himself quite curious as to what and how many there would be. He knew that his mother was pregnant, bringing new siblings into the world. He wasn't sure how he felt about this. Happy, sure, but there was something else too. Not quite jealousy, but a feeling similar to it, creeping around in the back of his mind, surfacing occasionally and making him quite uncomfortable. It had been a long time since the yearling had shared the den with his parents, preferring to sleep outside underneath the stars especially as the weather grew warmer.
But really, it all came back to change. Viserys was beginning to realize that change was inevitable. He had always been a bit mature for his age, but lately he was starting to think even more deeply than he had previously. Coming up with reasons for why things happened they way that they did. And as he thought he realized something else, too- that he was simply a speck of dust trying to understand something far bigger than anything he had ever known. Vis didn't know what the something was, but it was there, lurking just beyond the veil of his understanding, frustratingly close yet despairingly far at the same time.
The boy let out a heavy sigh, pulling himself up off of the ground. Thinking got him nowhere, it was all circular, coming back to the simple truth that he just didn't know. It was horribly taxing, the feeling of not knowing. Viserys liked training with Haziel because it took his mind off of the things that he didn't know, and he could focus on the things that he could know. It was more rewarding when you could see visual proof of your efforts.
Viserys glanced up at the sky, his expression softening as he watched the clouds for a moment. They changed all the time, and Vis felt as though the clouds were his companions; why couldn't he follow their example? "Up there, they don't mind the earth below." he murmured to himself, his teal gaze watching the clouds as they drifted lazily through the sky. "Certainly they don't suffer. No, it seems as though clouds have not a care in the world."
