“Border guard, eh? Very efficient.” she chuckles and he dismisses the dry compliment, rolling his shoulder and tilting his head to further the appearance of a shrug. “beneficial to all parties.”
then her leg pinches and she sucks in a breath and he leans forward, nose coming out to sniff as cautiously as he could, though it is hardly as though he could smell it any less inches further away. her frown at it inspired his offer to curb their travels a while - he was in fighting shape enough to have taken on a pursuer to at least let her get further into asteraia if the situation called. “Aye, sure. No pryin’ needed. It was a freak thing, an’ ah plan on avoidin’ the freak who did it fer the rest of mah days.”
she explains, nodding on her decision to affirm it more to herself than him, her introspection noted by the dark pointed brown wolf. he looks her over and approves of the idea, if this time was so harsh on her, then it certainly served her to avoid running into the situation she had just survived for sure. so he tells her they will rest, recoup some of her energy to try and help her before moving further into the interior of the packlands. she sighs in relief and that expression of relief doesn’t do anything more than to inspire him to first sit and then to lay on his belly with a strangely delicate cross of forepaws.
“…Thanks.” she mutters, and he feels oddly at the under-the-breath acknowledgement. it was unnecessary, truly, and it seemed it did cost her much to say it, despite how small a word it was. “whatever you think of asking for help -- you’re only proved the smarter for it.” he seems to make assumptions, but her demeanor had fed him little notes of what was going through her head. “what good is strength when you have no brain behind it? on of my brotherhood is like that. all brawn and no brain to speak of.”
he tilts his head now in curiosity. “now people who see you will say ‘why look, greer battled and survived’. not ‘look greer battled and lost’. and it is always good to make friends who will be offended for your sake when you are our size. it means we have to fight against the odds less and can do as we please more, eh? he suggests, a sly grin speaking to how often this had been in his favor in the past. there is a reason that seamus of ferrine was named the shadow-grin.
he chuffs a laugh out of his nose and then with a flop and a wriggle in the spring grass to liven himself a little more, he refinds his belly and looks at her, “the dens of me and my brothers are not far, not as far as the center of the pack. we have young, but you are welcome to den in my childless brother’s den. the healer comes there often as my brutish brother rather near killed his small mate with his giant pups. perhaps you could find yourself cared for properly and get better alls the sooner?”
