At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

MAY YOU ALWAYS KNOW ONE THING

Romulus. Long time, no see.

The male stiffened, a million thoughts running through his mind. His listeners showed off his inner emotions for a split second, and even the muscles in his face contorted in a ghoulish display of regret remorse, and fear. His mouth went dry, his tongue leathery, and then he reconstructed himself from the ground up, using whatever tools he could find around his decaying body to build another wall that would put a look of nonchalance and total blankness back on his palette. Eriel. This was a strained voice. Quiet and small. However, just as his face and body had become a wall once more, so did his voice. His lyrical tone converted to an iron fist. Better keep YOUR eyes open, dear. Wouldn’t want me sending you six feet down to lay you to rest with dear mother now, would we? It stung him on the inside. It really did. His words would most likely attack her, but they had even poisoned the varg who had born them into the world to begin with. It felt as if a million wasps would. It injected thorns into his gut like a sick wad of monstrous needles. His intestines tightened and twisted. She needed to leave. HE needed to leave. The stags stilts moved in revers e a few steps, slowly.

Why are you here, princess? Shouldn’t you be in your territory, pretending to be something special? The only reason he said such things was to ward her off. Get her to away. Get her into a safe spot. Anywhere that wasn’t with him was safe. He was trouble and she damn well knew it. Why was she even speaking to him? She could have just walked away and pretended that she hadn’t come across him. Want to know a secret? His voice was that of a snake. But it had a tone in it that suggested that not all was as it seemed. His pads hit a tree root and he took a deep breath. If he turned here, he could escape her presence and avoid her for life. I’m a monster, dearest. It’s in my genes to kill. As Ys’s son, I have taken upon the ‘family business’ of a reaper. It was a lie. A lie that he could live. He could do it. Yes. It would kill him slowly as venom does… But it would murder him. His auds turned in response to his placement on the terra. And he turned, aiming to just walk away from her. The sunlight hit his crimson shoulder, his black walkers silhouetted. But how could he see the fire that burned upon her own pelt? The beautiful eyes she was graced with? He couldn’t. A choke erupted in his throat quietly. For he couldn’t shed tears. And the pain was somehow worse because of that.
