Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

starshade
your love endures my back to it

The other child had gone unnoticed for the most part while Starshade's attention remained fixated on the other. It is only when the sound of paws are just feet away that she lifted her eyes to meet with the dark form of another child, this one female too and yet startlingly different. Whereas their physical appearances matched, their demeanor certainly did not. Still, despite the girl's attempt to be threatening, Starshade did not flinch away from her haughtiness. They were just children, after all, whose teeth could do little damage against an adult even as small as Starshade. Still, her actions were curious and the older woman's head tilted in amusement as the girl's words came biting at her. There was a hint of a grin playing at her lips as she moved to respond to the pair, her eyes moving between them as she spoke, her voice just as even and placid as before.

"You would not be wrong; nobody is normal, after all. However, it is your circumstances that are not normal today, not you."

There was a different, after all, between it all. Perhaps they were normal children, who was to say? However, being alone was not, and certainly not for children. Even nomads, after all, flocked together when it grew cold or when their hunger grew strong. She raised a brow, arching it towards the more snappy of the pair as if to test her resolve with her statement. But to even assume that children would have any cause to be alone? It was not at all conventional, especially not for children who could not hunt for themselves. Any other season and perhaps Starshade might have let the strangeness of it go but not now, not with spring just barely trailing behind them. It is when the quieter of the two spoke once again that Starshade's attention turned to her, her head slowly tilting towards its opposite axis. Her brows furrowed for a moment, unsure as to what meaning to take away from the words.

"Demons? Stars? Are you out here to search for such things?"

She knew how wild children's imaginations could be, and perhaps they had strayed in hopes of finding themselves in the midst of some adventure. If it were the case then perhaps she could help in some way; the sun would sink eventually, and then she could escort them home as she had done with Shiloh (though this time, there seemed to be much less risk of infection.) Otherwise, perhaps she could take them to the river. In the right light, the river's water could catch the sunlight and give the illusion of thousands of stars trickling down beneath its surface. Of course, it had never occurred to her that they had been speaking of their blood. For all intents and purposes, the depth of Moladion's cultures and social tiers had been lost on Starshade (though she had also never made a direct effort to learn of them, at least not yet.) And so, she remained ignorant to the meaning of their words.

Nonetheless, she straightened eventually, once more sweeping her gaze across the grass lands in search of some kind of parental or guardian figure. Still, the grass remained unparted, seemingly void of any other adults which she found almost unusual. It was as if wolves seemed to avoid such an area, perhaps because of the subtle smell of bogs and marshes that occasionally laced the wind. This was all part of the learning experience, she supposed. In a way, these children were too.
