For as long as even us old-timers can remember, serious softball teams may have played two or three nights per week, but always reserved one night to play at Kettering Field.

Reason? The City Tournament.

We are pleased to report that the City of Dayton has begun a series of strategic planning meetings with members of the Dayton Amateur Softball Commission (DASC) and is showing renewed interest in softball here in Dayton. Most especially, the new Director of Recreation & Youth Services, Joe Parlette, who comes to us from the City of Dayton's Golf Program, has shown great interests in our game and its success here in town.

Toward that end, the DASC is ramping up its game and bringing forth great new ideas for communicating with customers and representing the entire game here in town.

A first action may now be found on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dayton-Amateur-Softball-Commission-DASC/864534710272577

Our goal is to begin communicating and collaborating more effectively with anyone and everyone interested in Dayton softball. This new Facebook page allows all players, not just team managers, to be fully connected with activities of interest.

In the coming days and weeks, we will make announcements and provide links for accessing information about leagues or special events at Kettering Field Softball Complex.

We will look for new (and younger!) interested parties (members!) to help us promote the game. A simple request can get anyone a copy of various application forms, including leagues forms, city tournament entry form, DASC application form, or Hall of Fame application Form.

In addition, in the next month or so, the DASC will be developing and submitting plans for an improved city tournament which returns a spark of life to that classic event. Your ideas are welcome...and could now be submitted here or on the new DASC Facebook page.

Whether your interests lie on the adult side, the seniors side, or the youth side, we will share a common goal: outstanding softball in Dayton, Ohio.
