it would seem these monsters are men

all I knew were the stories I was told of monsters
and valiant men sworn to slay them.

Father would not be pleased with her if he could see her now; standing, absolutely alone, on a strange beach with a strange stallion approaching her. He was young, she thought, and handsome, which only made it far worse that she didn’t turn about and run. Somewhere in her mind, Abigail knew just what she was doing no matter how innocently she behaved. She knew there were repercussions of speaking with unknown men and of being alone in such a strange place. Yet still, she stood, watching as he approached and smiling ever so slightly at his proud march. Her blue eyes drifted to the sandy shore and then lifted again, only to do so when he’d come to a stop before her.

Her pale pink nose pushed outwards, thick neck stretching; she huffed as she exhaled and then drew in a breath after, taking in the thick presence of his cologne. Her heartbeat quickened, her smile grew shyer, and she shifted her hooves in the sand before her tail swished once or twice at her hindquarters.

“Hello Braylen,” she said, mainly for the excuse to say his name and feel how it felt to do so. “My name is Abigail,” she said. She blinked, looking from Braylen to the inland and then back again. “Paradise?” She echoed and a wider smile conquered her mouth. “What a wonderful name for a place.”

it would seem these monsters are men
and it would seem these men fear their own monsters
