Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Due to his viewing the world and its inhabitants in such a negative light, Kneph was deeply surprised and even moved by the friendliness of the other wolf, clear to him despite their separation. A warm smile lit up a face of white and black, marked with such care that it seemed some being had taken special liking to the femme. It wasn't often he had the pleasure of meeting one so unique. Their tails wagged in rhythm, stilted with caution but otherwise unwavering, and Kneph returned her grin with a charming smile, bowing slightly to her as she finally drew level with him and came to a halt. Her knowing eyes searched his for a moment and he let her, although he wasn't sure what she would see there, his pale gaze unwilling to divulge too much. She, however, seemed to find that which she sought, and she cocked her head slightly as if to listen to something, their invisible bond breaking with a swift snap. He watched her wearily, and shifted his weight from paw to paw, suddenly unsure of the wisdom of his choice, despite her perfume calling to him as strongly as ever. Damn winter and its nuances!

The alabaster and raven fatale seemed not to notice his inner turmoil, though, and spoke with a clarity Kneph envied immediately. He who could not speak a word had stumbled across the path of the prettiest voice in Moladion. He smiled mirthlessly, enjoying life's sarcastic twists, before his lips fell back across his canines with a start, for the meaning behind her lyrics had only just sunk in. He stared at her quizzically, curiosity lending a bright sheen to his eyes, before he finally nodded in agreement. However, before the female had time to say anything more, Kneph began to communicate with her in the only way he could – through his body language. Using a subtle twitch of his ears or wave of his tail he could make at least the bare bones of his words understood and he used the opportunity at that moment, not giving the other a chance to look away.
'How know? Male doesn't tell stranger. Perhaps on male's face?'

Kneph smiled again, attempting to put the other at ease. After all, it had been a long time since he had enjoyed the company of another wolf without his ghosts joining in the festivities.
'Very beautiful. Nice meet female. Call her?'

Around the two, the music of the Aplos wove and the trees shivered in the breeze. Winter's icy grip was loosening its hold at last, and the air didn't bite the lungs as it had not too long before. Kneph, going out on a limb that the female would linger, eased his muscular, blue-black frame onto the earth. With a nod of his head, he invited the other to sit beside him and enjoy the pale sunshine that warmed his pelt while they conversed. He had no doubt that the unfamiliar wolf had many stories to tell, and he had time enough to hear them all.
