will we still be writing

The door took an age to open, which was nothing out of the ordinary. While on the outside Khasekhemwy's cottage wasn't much bigger than its neighbours', on the inside it had been magically expanded to resemble a TARDIS, but much less organised. Random doors and corridors zig-zagged off in strange directions, and every other room seemed to be a library or archive with additional secret doors. Khasekhemwy never had trouble navigating it, but it still took him a while to get his nose out of whatever book it was in.

When the door eventually did open, it wasn't the erratic god of writing which was stood on the other side. It was someone else.

“Oh,” Thoth expressed with mild surprise as he saw Danny and Rhea on the doorstep. “Hi.”

This customary lack of enthusiasm, together with the lack of elaboration or an invitation to come in, might suggest to someone who didn't know Thoth well that he was put out by their arrival. Danny, however, should be aware by now that Thoth's expressions of displeasure were much more overt, and his unwelcoming nature was down more to a lack of awareness in social situations than any deliberate attempt to be rude.

The awkward silence was broken when Morveren pushed her head in between her fairy's legs, squealed with delight at the sight of Solarius and tumbled excitedly through the doorway. Now about the size of a fox, Morveren still looked disproportionately puppyish: she had overlarge paws and eyes, and didn't seem to appreciate that she was no longer kitten-sized. She barged forward, throwing Thoth's balance slightly and knocking over one of Khasekhemwy's potted plants, and immediately tried to climb onto the tiger's back.

“Hey,” Thoth grabbed her by the tail and pulled her back a little, with obviously more effort than it used to take when Morv was smaller. “No claws!” He managed to get a better hold of the squirming vaporeon, and jerked his had back into the cottage. “Khase is in there, first door on the left. We were just looking at some ancient texts.”
