Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

The world was but a blur as she slowly began regain what consciousness she had been losing. The water was now expelled from her lungs and she could feel herself reviving with each passing moment. Above her, the obscure shadow of another is seen and for a moment she feels safe and sound. But this dark coated savior is nothing but an illusion as she descends upon Sanguine with a wicked snarl wrinkling her already marred face. A gasp is hissed through the girl’s teeth as half-ton paws press her into the mud of the river bank and a searing pain soon erupts from her left shoulder. A series of yelps burst from her jaws and yet she is helpless to do very much against her attacker as nearly the full weight of the shadow presses down upon her.

Sanguine is only a ragdoll to the demon as she is turned upon her side and the dulled claws of the witch are drawn across her side. More whines of pain erupt from the young girl as her mind is flooded with adrenaline, pain, and confusion. Her shoulder burns profusely, more so than the shallow scrapes from the claws, and she soon believes that her end is to come painfully slow. The pressure was lifted from her frail body as the creature backed off to admire her work and when Sanguine thought that she was going to be left alive she was swiftly proven wrong. The shadow beast creeps around to her hindquarters as Sanguine’s body quivers in anguish and fear but she is already weakened from her battle with the river and though she tries so very hard to stand, she falls back to her place upon the muddy shore.

The unmistakable feeling of teeth grating against bone has her yelping once more, her forelegs clawing desperately at the earth to try and drag herself away, but she is held in place by the creature’s grasp upon her tail. Eyes are widened with horror and the shock of agony as the biting intensifies and soon after… numbness. Her heart pumps faster as she loses more and more blood and she can no longer feel the tail at her rear. Had she been paralyzed? Broken? No. The wolf returns to her anterior with the majority of Sanguine’s tail hanging limply between her bloodied jaws. Whimpers of pain fall in sequence from her jaws as she shakes from the terror of it all.

Her already opened shoulder is torn once again as the woman lunges forward, placing her weight upon the broken and bloodied girl so that she cannot move any further. But she finds no strength to even try and she wishes only to accept her fate here at the river. It is in these moments that she is glad that she is not begrudging of her mother and that she knows the truth about who her father is. Their time together may have been short lived but Sanguine enjoyed every minute she was allowed. She could die happily now.

A demonic snarl nearly deafens her ear as the drooling jowls of her attacker leave her shoulder and turn to maim the cartilage of her ear. Screams now drown out any other sound that may be coming from the devil woman and as the girl’s vision now begins to fade to black she sees the familiar figure of her father jumping in to knock the creature away. Her breaths are short and fast as the pain of fangs ripping her ear apart suddenly brings her back to full consciousness and eyes are widened in pure shock. ”Daddy!!” it is a word never before used and it is screamed through a rasped, fearful tone as she watches with panic. She is powerless to do anything else other than attempt to drag herself further from the massacre that is sure to happen. Her eyes drawing back slowly to watch her father do his best in keeping his daughter alive. Even through all of the fear, repulsion, and pain she feels her heart swell with the love that Enderly displays on her behalf – to place his own life at risk to try and save what is left of her own. Her mind wavers in and out of awareness as she has succeeded in moving herself at least a small distance away from the bloodbath and she falls, mercurial eyes looking toward the heavens as her thoughts become numbed.
