I hear the call of Galileo, a smile forming on my face for my fleet footed, aspiring spy. I wonder if his return means he has the information I requested of him, and so I am on my feet, three pups dislodged from their places in the den on the plain. Reaver had demanded I move them here, where we could both keep them safe I suppose, and without question, I obeyed the Dread. I am not so proud that my station outweighs the authority of my equal. I listen to him as he does with me, it is a mutual respect born of life together and trust, a bit of obsession and lust. Either way, I pull my form from my laying position, listening for a moment to the anguished and outraged voices of the three additions to our family, then moving out of the den and toward Galileo.
Excitement was the first thing I noticed, so too was an enthusiasm I had rarely seen in a wolf. I could not help but smile as I knew he had completed what I had asked, I could tell by the look upon his earthen face that he had done what I asked and he was proud of himself. I like this pride, this look of a job well done, it is much better than the self-consciousness of a pup who was never good enough for his father. I could relate to this, my own father drove me mad with his grueling training sessions and fierce discipline. To see this look - a look that mirrored my own after winning the battle with Rhae - upon his face was satisfying to me as well. The excited tone of his voice lets me know everything I needed to know about how he fared in his task, let alone the words he actually stated to affirm my internal suspicions. "You seem rather proud of yourself, Galileo. You must have something good to tell me.""You seem rather proud of yourself, Galileo. You must have something good to tell me." I recline on my haunches as he speaks once more, confirming what I had been thinking.
"I wish to know everything you found out, Galileo.""I wish to know everything you found out, Galileo." I say with a grin, my white tail thumping against the ground before he is speaking once more. His question was one that was bound to arise anyway, why would I want such a nightmarish creature any where near my pack? The answer to his question is a simple one, though it took some complex reasoning for me to get to this conclusion. I had the safety of the wolves in my pack to think about, the future of it, the young and old, sick and wounded. It wasn't just about me and what I wanted, rather, what we all wanted. "I was wondering when you were going to ask. Tobias is a notorious monster of a wolf, everyone whispers of his hunger, what he does, what he seeks. Is it not better to have a wolf like that on your side rather than at your throat?""I was wondering when you were going to ask. Tobias is a notorious monster of a wolf, everyone whispers of his hunger, what he does, what he seeks. Is it not better to have a wolf like that on your side rather than at your throat?" I state my reason calmly, assuring he understood. The safest place for that beast to be is in eye shot, and how else would I keep him that way unless he was under my roof?
