Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Heaven Help Me
When her golden gaze turned towards me, the half grin grew to a full one, glad to see she was receptive of my approaching her. But then, all at once, there seemed to be this heaviness that pressed on my chest. Then again, it wasn't heavy at all, it was so light, like a feather balanced upon my heart that weighed a thousand pounds. It was a strange sensation, feeling as though I was rooted to the spot and yet that I could fly at the same time. I had no idea what was causing it, wondering if there was maybe something in the air out here in the meadow or perhaps a plant that grew nearby. My breath caught in my chest for a moment, making me take a couple quick inhalations through my nostrils before I felt like I could breath normally again. I didn't realize it in that moment, but my breaths evened out into a synchronized rhythm with the rise and fall of the sides of the female that laid before me.

She introduced herself, Leafshadow, and my ears flickered towards her attentively, some part of me knowing that her name was of the utmost importance. I couldn't help but wonder why; maybe this arrowhead title she spoke of was of significance within the pack. Although I had no idea what it meant - Namira and Amoxtli hadn't told me about the pack's structure other than that his dad was the protector of the forest. She must have figured out I was pretty new around here, because she went on to explain that she was a hunter and scout for the pack. And then she offered me the second raccoon laying at her side. Without thought my paws carried me forward, closer to her as though drawn by some invisible force. I scooped up the offered meal before backing up once more, realizing how close to her I'd gotten. It didn't feel wrong, even though my upbringing had taught me to be respectful of other's personal space. What the heck was going on?

I backed up only enough so that when I let my haunches fold to the ground we sat directly opposite of one another. Setting the raccoon down at my paws I stared into her face once more, mesmerized. If I had thought Amoxtli to have a unique and special pelt, Leafshadow's was the rarest and most exquisite coloration I'd ever seen. I'd never felt so strongly about the stunning nature of someone's pelt before. I felt compelled to tell her as much, but managed to bite my tongue and only say, "Much obliged," in thanks for the raccoon. I just sat there and stared at her for a second, still baffled by the ruddy brown color that fell like a hood over her face. Blinking, I realized myself and cleared my throat before awkwardly looking down at the raccoon I'd not yet begun to consume, before glancing back to her once more. "Pardon me, Leafshad'w, m'name's Mikken."

Something sure was going on here, making me feel all anchored and yet the freest I'd ever felt. It was a bit mind boggling, in combination with the stunning pelt of the female before me. Suddenly I rocked back on my hindquarters and lifted a hind leg, itching at my chest, but it did nothing to alleviate the feeling. Not that I was really sure I wanted it to go away. Letting my leg fall back to the earth I leaned forward and put a paw upon the raccoon before biting into it, pulling back fur before taking a bit of flesh and swallowing it. I didn't want to seem rude, having taken her offer and then not actually eating it. After that single bite I licked my lips clean again and sat up straight. "Is there sumthin in the air in this here meadow? Sumthin just feels right diff'rent, and I haven't the damndest idea whattit'd be makin' me feel like this." I looked to her questionably, hoping she might be able to explain it to me. Or maybe there was just something wrong with me, because she sure didn't seem to be affected by it; then again she'd clearly lived here for a while so maybe she was just used to it. I hoped she could clear things up for me as easily as Namira had cleared up the difference between Enocra Woodland and Taviora.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
