aurelia was an early riser, what could she say? that morning found her awake to watch the sunrise, which cast the dark-hued girl in all shades of colors she couldn’t imagine being possible. once the sun had risen and the sky was closer to blue than to purple, the pup retreated back into the den to see who was awake - which was no one.

aurelia took her time to look over her family curiously. caderyn, the biggest of their litter, was still asleep. she watched his dark sides rise and fall, and for the first time was curious as to where he had gotten those colors. their mother was all light shades, like berwyn, their youngest sibling, except berwyn was pure white. now, aurelia didn’t have a strong sense of self, but knew that, logically, she was not an ugly wolf. she’d seen herself enough in the puddles left by the rain to know that she bore as little resemblance to their mother as caderyn did - baby blues had yet to vanish and that left all three identical in one aspect.

aurelia, in her youth, would carry these thoughts with her for maybe less than five minutes before they were dashed in lieu of other, better, thoughts. which is exactly what happened once she made the decision to leave the den. the girl shot her slumbering mother one last look and then scampered out of the den with a victorious grin.

it wasn’t often that they were allowed to leave the den without their mother, but never before had aurelia been in the territory alone. she had often been saddled with one, or more likely both, of her brothers when she was going out of the den, but now it was all her! she let out a victorious laugh once she had broken into the trees around the den. the girl moved with long steps, albeit unbalanced ones, to get distance between herself and her family members. at the moment, thoughts of the worry she might cause her mother were nonexistent and she continued on her way. all thoughts of - well, anything - disappeared when she noticed the small, furry creature in the underbrush.

”bun!” she fairly squealed, startling said rabbit. she hurried towards it, making a soft noise of protest as it began bounding away. on clumsy strides, the pup did her best to chase the animal. in retrospect, the rabbit was about as big as her and thus the entire “hunt” was ill thought out. however, there is little logic in the child’s thought process. her mother leaves the den sometimes and returns with them. they, her brothers and her, can’t eat them, but her mother does. maybe she could bring it back for her mother! the child gave her best chase after the rabbit. aurelia soon proved that she was, in fact, not a might hunter - the rabbit bounded further out of her line of sight as she flopped down on her side, and then her back, panting.
