Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice ....................................................................................................................................................................................
There he sat, the great King settled upon his boulder throne, awaiting the loyal masses to gather before him. He could still remember the first time he had called a pack meeting - he had been so unsure. The only wolf he had truly known at that time was Kong, from another time and another pack. Though he had been voted in, the pack putting their trust in him, he could not, at that time, put his trust in them. How could he when he hardly knew them? And so his thoughts had been a jumble, his words a string of vows he hoped he could fulfill, but was not completely sure of. But now? Now was different. He and the pack had survived through many trials this far, from strangers, to challengers, to threats, to heartbreak. The pack had proven themselves to Kalgalath, and against all odds, he had fulfilled his vows to the pack. Though he could not count his pack as one of the larger ones, in his case, it was quality, not quantity, that made his members worthy. So it was with a relaxed stance that he waited to greet them. Though he still looked regal, his posture straight and sure, it was not rigid or threatening, but rather welcoming.
And so the grey mottled brute's brows lifted in surprise when the first to grace the meadow with their presence was not counted among one of his advisors, but by an unknown. A brute, mostly black though pierced with dappled white, approached Kalgalath, bowing before him. Kalgalath dipped his cranium to the brute, flaring his nares to inhale his scent. A smile graced his kissers as he just barely picked up the scent of Hellene - so, this wolf had already been accepted. "Welcome to my pack, stranger. I am glad to see you are swift to answer to my call and submit gracefully before me. I am Kalgalath, the Alpha of Aurora Borealis. Hellene accepted you did she? What should I call you?" Mid speech, his electric azures drifted up, seeing a familiar form at long last - Kong.
My gifts to you. By the way, you still owe me a hunt. The brute tossed a couple of rabbits at Kalgalath's paw, causing him to chuckle, a deep throaty laugh rumbling forth. "Ah, but what need do I have to hunt when you bring me such grand meals?" His plume swayed, giving away how happy he was to see Kong - he was not sure whether he would be disappearing again as the fae that had captured Kong's heart had come... only to disappear again with her mate. "My dear, dear friend, it is good to see you indeed. We will attempt our hunt again, after our business here is done." While Kong turned to introduce himself to the first stranger, Kalgalath noticed another enter the scene - the fae he had talked to earlier in the week.
"Welcome, Rift, have you decided, then to join?" His gaze notes her firm stance, and the lack of submission or any acknowledgement, for that matter, of his rank. Perhaps she was simply stubborn in nature... but she would have to submit to him before being accepted, if that was why she was here. His piercing gaze shifted to the next fae to arrive, his most trusted Beta, who was, to his surprise, trailing a pup behind her. Greetings, Kal. This is my... son, Tarly. He is very excited to meet you. Kalgalath smiled at the pup. "Hello, Tarly. Welcome to your new home. If you should ever need anything, all you have to do is ask." His deep voice was soft, and gentle, for he would always have a special place in his heart for pups. A saddened facade turned to Magic for but a moment, for he had heard of Glitch's return... and subsequent death. Though he had been absent for much of their relationship, Kalgalath knew just how deeply Magic had loved Glitch. "It is good to see you, Magic. We have much to catch up on at a later juncture." Magic and Rift began to talk, and the Alpha turned his gaze upward, glad to see that the steady stream of wolves kept coming.
The eboness smiled at him, greeting him before sitting next to Magic. Kalgalath, it is good to see you again. I'm sorry I have not seen you in so long. His smile returned and he shook his head. "There is no need for apologies, my friend. We have all been busy since the return of the spring." On her heels arrived Hellene and her two pups... and Kalgalath laughed when he saw them. "Destan, Khaleesi, how big you both have grown! I have not seen the two of you in far too long. You're all grown up.. I remember when you were naught but balls of fluff." Hellene dipped her head to her King before looking fondly down at her two children. Although she had adopted them, they were truly hers and she loved them as such.
Hello, Kalgalath. It is good to see you. She moved to sit beside Universe, leaning toward him. Yes, these two are my pups. I know they are adults, but they will always be my pups. Don't make fun of my for it. Her tone was semi-serious, though she meant for the comment to be a joke, as she had threatened him upon accepting him. How are you enjoying the lands so far? We can continue the tour after this meeting ends if you would like.
His gaze swept out over those on the ground before him. "I would like to welcome and thank all of you for coming so swiftly. We will start the meeting in just a few minutes as we wait for stragglers." He smiled at them, and then Kalgalath turned his gaze to the treeline once more, knowing that there was at least one more varg who would show up - his own daughter.
