For longer than I expected to, I kept my balance atop the beast's back. She thrashed against her assailants and my nimble nature allowed me to remain upright, teeth digging and biting into the soft spot on the flat of her head. My suspicions were correct, and I was rewarded with breaking the skin and tearing her very head open. For a moment I could not help but look down into the cavity that I had begun to expose with interest, for it was so different from the skull of any other prey I had hunted. It was in that moment that my body was finally jostled from its upright position, and as the other wolves overwhelmed the alligator she shifted to fall sideways. In a final attempt to end this, I lunged forward and sunk my fangs as deep into her head as I could, feeling the soft tissue of what I hoped to be brain underneath my grasp. As she collapsed my body was flung slightly to the side, landing half in the muddy bank of the waters, but the lower portion of my right hind leg trapped beneath the beast as she wheezed her last breath. Together we had ended her life, taken her down far quicker than I could have speculated. I glanced towards her face, so close to my body, where one eye was destroyed completely and her features were completely ravaged. From where I lay I reached forward, not so concerned with the state in which I was trapped for I knew myself to be at no further risk. Delicately I nosed at the opening I had created in the back of her head, curious if I had been successful in damaging the brain.

I was given only a moment to glance upon my handy work before the form of our prey was lifted away from me by the might jaws of our leader. Immediately I pushed myself away from the depression of ground which I had been trapped within, before regaining my feet and moving towards Aithne, my head dipping in thanks for her help. Successful hunts were a thing to be celebrated, and my tail waved out behind me eagerly. As Aithne began to speak I moved instead to Praetor, licking his cheek a few times to show my glee at our success. I smiled at him and nudged my nose into his neck, wanting to ensure he was uninjured before turning towards the alligator, wondering if he'd yet tried this delicacy. Rather than move for the internal organs which might taste somewhat similar to those of the seals and ungulates I had consumed before, I decided to try something new. I wanted the very meat and muscle of the alligator, and so I approached the throat of the beast, now seeking to tear away the exposed skin and reveal the flesh beneath. I grasped a chunk of meat from below the jaw and moved away from the body of our fallen quarry, wishing to have a good sniff of it before consuming.

I set the meat down when I had allowed enough room for the rest of the pack to get into the exposed under-flesh of the animal, inspecting it. While it might appear like the flesh of any beast, upon closer examination I noticed the slight differences in smell, texture, and appearance. I salivated, hungry to have my first true taste of the swamp lands trademark meal. Finally I bit into the flesh I had taken, finding it to be tender and delicious. Satisfied with my discovery and what I had learned about alligators this day, I consumed the rest of my takings before pivoting slightly so that I could see and acknowledge each wolf that joined us hereafter.
