Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

got a hole in my soul,
growing deeper and deeper,
Soon, they wouldn't be in Asteraia. To the best of her knowledge, she and her family would be leaving the prairie soon. Though she had not voiced her excitement, she could not help but feel a flutter of ecstasy at the thought of seeing more of the world. After all, she had been restricted due to her age, otherwise confined to the territory markers that fringed the forests and plains. How could she not be excited about the prospect? It was their father that had come for them, too - she had been quick to accept his place in her family tree, be it true or not. It gave her something grander to aspire to, at least, and so she clung to the possibility like no other.

Still, they had time before they would leave and so, she had begun to test those very same confinements more and more. With each new day, she had trekked further outside the invisible markers; the forest had become a refuge of sorts, a way out of a boring routine that held little interest. Perhaps she could have found amusement elsewhere and yet, she enjoyed the deep shadows that the towering trees cast and the multiple crevices and corners the tangled roots and foxholes offered as hiding places. There, she'd listen to the strangers that roamed about. There, she had begun to learn a myriad of new things that would have otherwise remained in the dark had she remained complacent in her confinement.

Today, that was where she had taken roost - in the shadowy nest of a fox long gone. It smelt of other wolves, too, having apparently been used in the past as a temporary shelter. It sat wedged between a tangled mess of roots that stared out towards the direction that the river ran across. She nestled in neatly at the den's mouth, cloaked by a shallow shadow as she listened to the forest around her - it was exciting in itself, hearing how the forest fell quiet as the sound of paws found their way into her vicinity. She could not help but hold her breath in anticipation, turning her attention towards the closeness of the stranger. They surely had no idea! She listened to them pant from the heat, the way they moved - she smelt all she could learn about them. Female, older, but not too old. It was only then that she could not help but giggle in amusement, a surefire way to break her cover.

Resigned to her fate, she slipped free from her hiding place. She would have been snuffed out fast enough, anyway, so why bother hiding now? Still, she was a small thing, not even a year old yet. She kept close to the tree as she peered around it to find the form of the stranger. Eloah watched in silence for some moments, her lips pulled up into a tiny grin. She did not approach, not yet, and neither did she speak; instead, she merely watched, curious as to how the other might take having been watched - or, well, eavesdropped on, too. The fact was obvious enough. But who could be cruel to such a small, unassuming child?
