The air is heavy as you make your way through unknown territory, as you pause to sniff the air a drop of rain falls onto your nose. It is soon followed by another and another and soon the rain is pelting down in sheets, soaking you to the bone. The clouds are an angry purple and the menacing drumming of thunder rolls over the sky. Squinting your eyes against the blinding water you find yourself at the edge of a large, dark pine forest. You are too desperate for shelter to notice the scents that mark the border and plunge in, and nearly into the chilly stream that runs through the territory. You veer away and as you are shaking the water out of your fur you notice a large pair of icy blue shards gazing at you. The storm has passed now and beams of sunlight filter through the thick canopy of pines, illuminating a massive male wolf not three feet away from where you stand.

His pelt looks like a bad patchwork job of black and white and beneath them you see large, hard bands of steely muscle and you know this is a warrior for his torso is marred with many battle scars. His banner curls over his back and his lips are drawn, exposing sharp ivory daggers. When he speaks his voice is deep and dominant, like the thunder you so recently heard.

"Wolf, you have found yourself in the terra of the Andere Seite Pack. I am Eclipse, king of this land."

It is only then that you notice another pair of lanterns gleaming in the penumbra and a dark-pelted fae slinks out into the clearing to stand next to the king, her own banner waves and her green and blue eyes bore into you. She is the same size as most males and a crisscrossing pattern of scars show that she too can take care of herself. Her voice is cold and has a snake-like sound to it yet you can see they are both fair rulers.

"And I am Nephthys, queen of Andere. We don’t care much for strangers so you must make your choice, Submit to us now or flee our lands and never return. If you fail to do either you will have little time left to regret it."

The formidable pair pierces you with their gaze and you feel as if all your secrets spill out before them. You are left with a decision now. Will you submit and take refuge in this dark forest or will you flee and never know what secrets these trees hide? Make haste, you can see that the pair grow tired of waiting.

Find Me In The Darkness

Butterflies. It had been butterflies that had commandeered her dreams this past night. Peaceful, quiet butterflies... and yet it made Athene anything but relaxed. It had been quiet enough to hear each and every one of their wing flaps... the soft rustle as they rubbed against each other, the gentle whoosh as they forced the air beneath them to move downward, bringing the beautifully innocent insect upward into the air. Never was life that quiet... not until you were dead. Athene had awoken in a cold sweat, her side still lonely as Zev had yet to make his way to the territory once more. She was not sure if he was reconsidering their option to return to their home, or if he simply was otherwise occupied. Perhaps hunting or resting... or maybe instead he was finding a gift to bring her... or the Alpha. The pair of them had been gone for a long while, and while the lands had not changed, the members and hierarchy within had. While they were technically still members of the pack, they had been accepted under the old reign, and needed to be accepted under the current one. They needed to contribute and be useful. They needed to belong.

And if she was dead enough to hear each motion of a butterfly, she would not be very useful, now would she? Perhaps it was sign that she thought her romance was dead, which was ridiculous. Her and Zev had had their honeymoon for months on end, they were as much in love now, if not more, than they had been when Zev had finally caught up with her in the caverns. No, what Athene feared was that the death was instead her purpose in life. She had not been raised for the soft life... for a love life. She had been raised to be a force of nature, a warrior, silent and deadly. Athene needed to return to this purpose if she was going to save her 'self'.

And so, when the new leader's call broke through the territory, Athene shot to her feet, feeling immediate relief at having a task to complete, even though it was simply to report it. The call was one that she had been waiting for - a pack meeting in which all the members would become acquainted with one another and assigned to duties to ensure the pack was run smoothly and protected flawlessly. Every wolf had their strengths... and weaknesses... that could either be accented or taken advantage of. Athene knew hers - now it was time for the Alpha to know them as well.

She exited her den, shaking out her coat, drops of sweat flying from her. There was not the time to properly dry herself, but at least she would look as if she had gone for a morning swim instead of having survived the nightmare of ... butterflies... Athene pushed against the ground, heading toward the origin of the call, the center of the pack. Their den had not been made far from it - they had sought the privacy from outsiders, and thus had not wanted to be too close to the boundary. Within minutes, she stood before a large brute who toward above her, his form statuesque upon his throne in the center of the meadow. Before bowing before him, she paused, standing straight and stiff, her honey gaze studying him, looking for flaws. Though she had not grown up with a pack hierarchy, she understood it, and would never serve an Alpha who was weak or unworthy... but beneath his pelt his muscles were strong as was his gaze. Only time, however, would speak as to his motives and his personality.

Slowly, the femme lowered her body to the ground, rolling so that her dorsum lay against the grass, exposing her vulnerable ventrum. For a few brief moments she remained in such a state before flipping up, her lithe body returning to her paws and sweeping gracefully into a bow.

"I come here not as an outsider
Bodice devoid of pack scent on her fur,
But instead as a member unknown,
Admittedly my absence is something I bemoan.

My mate and I had joined here months ago
I ken much occurred within this time flow,
But here I am, returned to this place
Waiting solely for that of my mate's face.

Once more we are to pledge our loyalty
To the pack and to you - the Alpha, the royalty.
My mate's name is Zev and my own is Athene
As a warrior I was raised, I can go unseen.

My skills are innumerable, please put me to work
I'll be your weapon always in the shadow to lurk
Accept us once more, allow us to be true
Don't send us away with an adieu.
"

She returned to her silence, meeting and holding his gaze until he declared his judgment upon her. Should he accept her, she would move to his side, haunches lowering to the earth, tracking the rest of the wolves that would present themselves to the King. Should he, however, deny her, she would leave without another word, looking to pick up her mate's scent before he entered the terra.
