PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

you came along and you cut me loose

Over the din of their splashing and laughter, Jetta’s ears failed to pick up the rumble of approaching hooves. It was only after she had received a flurry of water droplets to her face, momentarily blinding her, that the yearling caught movement in her peripheral vision. Abruptly ceasing her play, Jetta stood still in the middle of the stream and peered through her soaking wet forelock at the two strange horses who stood facing them not far from their mother. The mare was almost as dark as Inka, but had none of her height; the salt-and-pepper filly was even smaller, with a short, stiff mane that showed she was close to Adelheid’s age. The pair seemed to be having words about something, as if the filly had got herself in trouble.

“Who are they?” her sister queried, and Jetta shook her head as she continued to gaze curiously in the stranger’s direction. “I dunno.” She pricked her ears when the mare called out to their mother in a friendly voice. “Maybe Mama knows her.”

Inka had lifted her head from her grazing when the pair suddenly rushed into the meadow, quietly observing as the unfamiliar mare and filly made straight for her daughters and stopped. She swallowed her mouthful and chuckled; it was clear the girl did not get a chance to play with others her own age often. When the dark, petite mare turned to address her, she stepped forward with a kind smile.

“She’s more than welcome. My daughters could do with playing with someone other than each other.” Inka’s brown eyes lowered to the sweet young face of the filly. “Go on,” she encouraged her with another smile, then returned her attention to the mare, stretching forward to offer her nose in greeting. “I’m Inka. My girls are called Jetta and Adelheid. Are you new to the peak?” Just as the words left her lips, a sudden image of the dark mare strolling through the trees with a handsome bay stallion flashed through her head. She had seen them only once, from a good distance, but given the fact stallions were not normally allowed in the peak, they had left an impression on her. She straightened up suddenly with a small gasp. “Oh! I think I’ve seen you around. You were with a stallion, right?”
