it would seem these monsters are men

all I knew were the stories I was told of monsters
and valiant men sworn to slay them.

She didn’t know where he was. There were five islands, including Atlantis. Abigail knew he was not on Atlantis, for when she’d returned to Paradise to find Braylen gone and the scent of another stallion she’d gone back to the Ridge, hoping Braylen was there. Abigail knew she would be safe if she returned to the Ridge and asked Jabberwocky if she could stay until Braylen showed up again, for Jabs had been fun and kind… but she was worried. Where could Braylen have gone? Did the other herd stallion drive him away? Had Braylen been injured?

She climbed the beach as saltwater rolled from her body and her conflicted gaze tore from the direction of the Ridge to that of Paradise. Thus far the two stallions she had actually met on the island had been kind (that just being Braylen and Jabberwocky) and so she had to hope that the stallion who’d taken Paradise was as well. She still considered herself a mare of Braylen’s, even without knowing where he was, so if the stallion attempted to keep her to his herd she would fight her way free.

Narrowing her eyes in determination to find where Braylen was (maybe he’d returned and taken Paradise back, after all!) she started off toward the familiar beaches she’d temporarily called home. It pained her that Braylen’s scent was quite faded and old when she crossed the border and the other stallion’s was strong, but she pushed forward anyways. She didn’t cry out when she crossed the border, as she knew that he would cross paths with her eventually. She looked toward the thick, bright green jungle and thought of delving into their depths, perhaps finding that first, beautiful place Braylen had showed her… but Abigail had not come here to hide. Abigail had come here for answers.

She snorted and kicked up her hooves, trotting along the shoreline, waiting to see if she would cross paths with this new stallion.

it would seem these monsters are men
and it would seem these men fear their own monsters
