Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

If you had asked him afterwards, Sleekwing could not have said with exact certainty why he had invited the younger male to join him in the hunt. Perhaps it was the youthfulness of his appearance, or his larger stature, or simply because he'd been in the right place at the right time. Regardless of the reasoning for it, Sleekwing called out to the other male. Though his cobalt blue and lavender eyes were quick to return to the doe that he pursued, he caught the swift and unquestioning movement of the other wolf out of the corner of his eye. Agape jaws turned slightly upwards at their corners, a grin of sorts as the long legs of the younger male were quick to catch up to him. Almost immediately the darker wolf set to snapping at the ankles, giving Sleekwing a moment of respite.

The seasoned warrior dropped back half a stride, keeping pace with Tithe and the doe, but allowing his new hunting partner to work her through the forest for a moment. It gave him the chance to really focus on her lame leg, eyes narrowing to watch how it was holding up each time it impacted against the ground. It was another few strides before he saw what he was looking for - the limb gave the slightest of trembles, even mid-gallop. Now was the time, and he pushed forward to run evenly with Tithe once more. He gave the slightest dip of his head towards the front left limb, to alert Tithe to the situation. The language of the hunt was something far more primal and instinctual than an average everyday conversation between two wolves. No words were needed, only sounds and gestures; or at least that was how Sleekwing was taught. Perhaps Sleekwing had sensed Tithe's ability to understand the non-verbal language of the hunt, and that was why he had called out to him in the first place.

As they pushed the doe deeper through the forest, Sleekwing signaled to Tithe, asking him to move up alongside the deer. His intention was to leap and latch onto the haunch of their prey, and if she stumbled like Sleekwing thought she would, Tithe would be given the perfect opportunity to seize her by the neck and bring her down. Cobalt eyes rimmed in lavender flashed to his newfound partner, knowing that the timing had to be perfect. If Sleekwing did not attack as soon as Tithe burst forward along her side, the doe may veer off course and he would surely miss his mark. But it was also important that he not lunge too soon, for if the doe stumbled before Tithe was in place the opportunity to pull her down while she was unstable would be lost. It was why hunting large prey was so often more successful among a pack of wolves whom had hunted together many times - their movements and attacks were all well synchronized.

Sleekwing believed they would be successful, though; his gut instincts had brought Tithe into this hunt and surely they would see it through and bring down this bountiful meal. So when Tithe sprinted forward, Sleekwing was ready. His hindquarters coiled beneath him and he launched forward, springing off the ground with his mouth agape and his paws extended forward. The force of his body colliding with the hind end of the prey forced some of the air from Sleekwing's lungs, but he had been prepared for that as his teeth sunk deep into the flesh of the doe's haunch and he felt the off balance rocking of the doe as she tripped over her already unstable leg. Now was the time for Tithe to finish the job.
