After a quick, amateur inspection Halcyon decided she was fit enough to run with him. She spoke very quietly that he had barely caught the words, but he nodded in reply and took off from the area as quick as a bullet. Small in stature, just like his father before him, Hal was able to run in great bursts of speed. His nimble paws seemed to have little difficulty on the crags but a few times he did slip as he turned his head to be sure she was still following. There were some moments he stopped completely with his ears up and eyes alert in the search for more danger, but the night seemed calm once again. Still, better not take any chances.
It seemed to take a little longer to reach the den again but once there the russet boy beckoned his new companion inside. The entrance was too small for a fully grown wolf, but a pup should have no problem squeezing inside. Likewise, the hole was slight cramped but the tight space would keep the two of them warm until the morning blessed them. He waited for her to enter then, after checking once again that they were not followed, he moved inside after the white princess.
The den grew pleasantly warm with two bodies snuggled inside and all the youngster wanted to do was sleep. But first, he looked at the girl with curious brown eyes. She was pretty, you know, for a girl. Her pale fur was marked by darker spots that looked like wings. She was younger than him but already almost as big as him. Her scent was unfamiliar to him but it carried with it the smell of many other wolves. After a long, probably uncomfortable time staring, Halcyon finally introduced himself. ”I know it’s not much, but it’s home for now. My name is Halcyon. Who are you? Where do you come from?”
