The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

Marx chuckled at the 'sir' at the end of her question, but didn't discourage it. Abendrot was very much a mil pack and she would do well to start sooner than later. Marx nodded and stood, glad she seemed to have accepted him as a leader- they would no doubt get to know each other better over the forever they now had together. Marx wondered what Enigma would think of this new pup and hoped she wouldn't assume things- it wasn't like her to assume things. He couldn't quite put a finger on why he hesitated, why he worried about this pup and the acting of adopting her into the Soldier faction. If she turns out as good as me, I will be replaced by younger blood No, that wasn't it. He didn't fear competition- he didn't fear anything much these days. Perhaps losing Abendrot or losing Enigma, to lose Enigma would be to lose his better half- literally. He wiped the grin from his face.

Now we see who's about to meet you...

Hesitation gone, he lifted his head skyward and pointed his maw at the stars, calling boldly- a command, not a question. Soldiers were to report, no question. Other faction were welcome, but not needed at this time. It was time for a training exercise and this pup needed a taste of the wolves she would be fighting alongside. Marx's grey eyes remaining staring the the light fluff of white in the sky, which was moving at a great rate towards them. Abendrot was know for its storms- the western border was flooded and turned into swamp within the last year- it was now a death trap. Marx wouldn't allow Nova out of his sight much at first- knowing that even inside the pack border, pups were not safe and Abendrot had enemies from the past who would no doubt love to grab its weakest recruit and pay Abendrot back for the things they had done prior. Kershov believed in enemies just as much as allies- if wolves didn't give him what they wanted, he took it. With an army of trained killers, he was a force to be reckoned with on any day of the week. Marx went over the training exercise he was about to perform on his soldiers and wondered how many would show...and how many wouldn't.

Abendrot was not low turnover- wolves came and went, maybe a little less than other packs, because the really stupid ones got a one way ticket to being dumped into the sinking bog of swamp or strung up in a tree on display, a friendly warning to those not so friendly. He wondered what they would do with Draven's body when they finished him. Kershov might just turn him into another Kenshin. Marx knew he still had to talk to Kershov, but he'd been avoiding the icy brute- knowing what the conversation...and what it entailed would lead to. Marx stretched, hearing pops and cracks where their used to be none. He shook himself off and looked at Nova, then lighten cracked overhead, an everlasting boom and the flash of light was gone- it was close, but not dangerously so. Marx didn't move a hair as fat drops of rain started to pelt the earth. He loved the rain, the wet and the flooding. He liked the gentleness and the raw power of the rain and the damaging way it brought life back to the land. Marx exhaled slowly and let the downpour drench him- not seeking shelter.

He looked to the pup, who probably was more used to finding shelter. The soldiers would no doubt have fun beating the crap out each other in the slush and mud.

Better get used to it kid, it rains a lot here.
