Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

It had not been often so far this winter that the weather had been mild enough for Taika to venture from whatever shelter she had claimed for the time. Her thin frame made it a challenge for her to keep warm in the most bitter of winds, and her youth had not made her body grow accustomed to fluffing itself for protection against the winter. She sighed to herself as she left her shelter. When she was alone, trapped for shelter her mind wandered to places she preferred it not to go. She thought of her friends back at home, and how she would never see them again. Eventually her mind would come back to life here and the friends she had met so far. She wondered if she would run into any of them again! Her heart fluttered a beat when her mind roamed to the male who had played with her.

I should go find them!” The dark brown and burnt flame colored female yipped to the faeries on her shoulder, the friends that were always there but gave her no warmth. Fighting the loneliness, she carried her imaginary friends with her wherever she went. She did not care if other wolves believed her crazy, nor did she care if they believed her when she said she believed in faeries. Having someone to talk to was a comfort to her, whether they were actually there or not was irrelevant when she felt so whole in her belief.

Suddenly excited, the little girl who was almost a young woman bounded from her cubby and dashed into the fresh snow. Laughing happily at stretching her legs, she snapped at the snow under her paws. It was seconds and her eyes started to gleam with the familiar playfulness that was her nature. Everything about her being was so easily lost in play she did not see where she was going as she danced the trails her imagination took her down. She did not notice anything around her until her paws slipped on the frozen surface of the river. Blinking down, she touched her nose to the trapped bubbles. Her tail wagged high above her and she leapt straight into the air, crashing down as hard as she could.

Don’t fear!” She barked at the water spirits, digging at the ice with her claws. “I will free you!” Her voice was filled with laughter, yet determination as she made it her mission to release her friends from their cold prison.
