Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

how long will we blame the devils on our shoulders
and pose like angels on the outside

It is only natural to be lured in by the smell of blood, be it old or fresh. During such a season, hunger is best satiated in such a way that is easy, after all. That is why I am content to follow it through the free lands, curious as to its origins. It is lupine. That is what is most curious about it. I am not like the wolves of say, Asteraia, but there is a part within me that still grow allured by its aroma.

I move along the banks of the river steadily, keeping to the tall grass the toes that line between stone and field. The blood is upwind of me and noticeably stale yet there is a fresh warmth that comes in bursts; an injury, I assume. Female, too. That in itself is a curious thing and I cannot help but feel one side of my lip pull up in an amused grin - perhaps I have found myself somebody rather... fun. I had desired, briefly, to find the wolf Covet for a myriad of reasons and yet, I had never stopped to consider uncovering the truth about the wolf that had singled out the forests. It had been my home once, see, and remains the home of Solaris. That particular wolf would certainly be of interest to me, I am sure.

I pause a long shot away as I come across the form of her; she is bowed into the water, her white fur still marked faintly with the aged stains of blood. I watch her for some moments, concealed behind what remains of the tall grass though my pelt does well enough to hide me away - I am but snow covered stones. I watch her closely as she pulls away from the water and it is then that her injuries become prevalent. One side of her face is grotesque thing, though perhaps I only see it in such a light for it reminds me of Lihi. For a moment, I contemplate where her eye is now - did the king of Taviora take it upon himself to swallow it up? Or had it dangled from her like a piece of leaf litter, clinging on until she could not stand it anmore? I intend to find out. Of course.

I emerge then, my paws crunching into the pebbles and dirt that litter the side of the river. I press down with all my weight intentionally, buckling the stones beneath me in order to attract her attention - with such a face, I have no doubt she will be focused on listening out for somebody. I wonder if she had expected somebody like me? Or had she expected a valiant steed of Taviora to swoop in and take her head for their king?

"What a nasty thing," I speak quietly though she will have no issue hearing as I step forward slowly, beginning to bridge the distance. My eyes lock on to hers - or at least, her singular eye. Though, I am captivated for some moments as I stare into the bloody abyss that stands out against her white fur. "What was the last thing it saw, I wonder."
