The pup sat quietly, analyzing everything that Halina had said to him and told him. As her pools peered at him, she could see his mind thinking, ticking, rolling. Slowly, his words rolled into her audettes, words that exposed intelligence and wisdom far beyond the pups years. What had happened to the pup to make him develop so much faster than he would have otherwise? In this pup, Halina saw a kindred spirit. Had his childhood been like hers, scarred with pain and fights and gore, his flesh painted with memories of it, just as hers was. Well, I dont want someone to hunt for me and just take care of me. I can learn. I know how the world works and I dont want an easy life, and I need to learn how to right and defend myself. So I guess I can come back with you. Where is your home? What will you tell them about me? Halina smiled at him and stood, shaking out her pelt. I live in Abendrot, a pack to the south of here. Kershov is the leader there, a warrior whose likes are rarely seen. As to what I will tell him, I will say that you are a promising young pup who I aim to turn into my protιgι. That you are strong, stubborn, and a survivor. And I will tell him that your name attests to your heritage and that you will be a good addition to the pack. Halina turned away from the pup, her smile not fading at all.
The pup was hesitant to follow her, which was completely understandable. There were two types of pups in the world strong ones and weak ones. The weak ones did not survive without an adult to care for them, which was not strange, per say. Pups were inherently physically weak. They stood no chance against adversaries
but thats where the strong ones stood one. Strong pups were still physically weak, but their minds worked in a different manner. They were survivors. They avoided dangers, sought out their own prey, figured out what they had to do. And Lupin was one of them. Even with Halinas offers of safety and protection, he had had to think about it. He weighed the pros and cons presented to him
he only wanted the best.
Follow me, Lupin. You will find that your future is one that will fully satisfy you. Her head had turned around to glance at the pup one final time before she straightened, pointing her paws toward her pack. She did not once check to see if the pup was following her, nor did she offer to carry him. He had gone this far, now was not the time to become soft. Halina had promised to teach him and train him, and she would not go back on that
and the training started now. The pup would need to push through his tiredness and exhaustion in order to make it to Abendrot, and it would be the start of building his muscles up.
Luckily for Lupin, the trip down to Abendrot was not too long or far, so he wouldnt be pushed too hard. Halina paused at the border. This is the end of your previous life, and the beginning of your new one. If you have any doubts about whether you want to stay or not, you should run away now and never look back. This life is not for the faint of heart. But it is for the strong, and I believe you are strong. She paused to see if Lupin would stay or leave, and then tilted back her cranium, letting loose a call to the ranked wolves in the pack. Lowering her haunches, she settled in, waiting for one of them to reply.
