Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

Soft paws padded lightly on the ground. The spring had truly come to grace the world this day. The sun was high and bright, but the air still cool and pleasant. Rain that had fallen a few days previous had nourished the ground bringing the plant life into its green brilliance and the dirt still pleasantly solid under paws. It was really a day for pleasantries and hours spent in the sun and in thoughts or dreams.

With a rabbit hanging from her mouth, Taika wandered through the fields, her grin on her face even through the rabbit’s fur. She came to a cluster of rocks she had found and dug out to create a small hole for herself. No one would have been able to call it a den by any stretch of the term. It was a place she had found and created to give herself space to rest. She had intended for others to use it for the same purpose. Perhaps it would grow to become a resting place for many, each of them adding their own weight to the comforting rocks. Stretching pleasantly, the young lady settled to chew on her meal, her mind wandering as she munched.

Thoughts played over in her mind. With the turn of the season came a change in thinking. She knew the passing of time, and she knew this was a year many would consider her an ‘adult’ in most respects. Society would had suggested she look for a pack, or look for a home. Neither of these things interested her as much as simply finding friends and exploring what the world had to offer to its fullest. She knew being a part of a pack did not mean abandoning freedom, it merely meant she would have a home base to return to at any time. Her ears flicked at this thought while her teeth crunched against bones. Much like this place she had found, she could not seem to place her loyalty or interest in any one location. The world as a whole called to her as opposed to one place or another.

She sighed into the stomach of her food, amused briefly at watching the lungs inflate with her breath before deflating. Her mother had warned her that when reaching ‘maturity’ mates and partners would come to mind. Taika had never thought about it much. But the season of pups had inevitably come along with the live of the earth. Her heart fluttered when she thought of males she had met in her time here and it was a strange sensation to her. As a puppy the only thing that could have stirred her into such thoughts of excitement was the idea of catching the stars as they fell. Now she wondered if she had been looking for stars in the wrong places.

It was not very often the chocolate coated girl felt melancholy, and she did not like the feeling. She did not like it, but let a small smile glitter in her eyes.

“What do you think?” She turned to ask the little faerie she was sure followed her in all her travels. “Do you think it is time to give up?” Her smile grew when she answered her own question. Why would she ever give up on something she knew brought her joy to replace it with something that made her feel… off? Why completely give up on the magic of the world around her when it clearly had its way with every passing day?
