Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Kairos was resting.

The slow moving waters of the Aplos gently rocked her body as she sat in the current, splashing up her back and halfway up her belly and cooling her warm skin. The sun shone down, bright and unforgiving from above, and pricked at her ears and nose so that, every now and then, she dipped her pate to the surface and submerged as much of her face as she could, coming up again with streams of water and saliva dribbling from her lips. Her fur floated about her like a halo, its white, black and red hairs swirling in the current so that tiny fish flitted from their crevices to pull at the silken strands. She did not notice their brash interference of her relaxation, however, for her eyes remained half closed and her chin fell often to her chest as she fought off the delicious fingers of sleep.

The musical nature of her surroundings, complete with the chinking of water as it wound its way over and between river rocks, did not help her situation, she she considered climbing onto the bank and finding a place to sleep. After some deliberation, however, she decided that she was much too lazy to move, and so she let herself be comforted by the unfamiliar sensations of the mortal world on her skin.

She knew that, soon, she would have to begin her quest again, but she put it off as long as she could, dreading the thought of getting back to work. She had been idle for many days already, after her visit to Iromar, though it bothered her little. She was but a year old, and had much time still to spread the word of the gods. Dirge was also still too young to influence, and so she bided her time with the patience of a huntress.

As she sat, coddled by the waters, she thought about the wolves she had met in the last months, and wondered what they would be doing. Her mind lingered longest on two males, whose hides she had seen nothing of since after she had first met them. First, there was Lonroh, the dark-pelted creature whose bossy demeanour and dark ideas had excited her even at such a tender age. Then, there had been Elohim. She had met him in the darkness, experienced a strange closeness with him, shared with him the taste of bat's blood, and he too had intrigued her. After those two, she had met Taika, the pretty little girl who had taught her how to play, and a faint smile lit up her features even as her heart contracted with a rare fondness for the innocent little lady. Perhaps she would seek out one or all of them when her rest was over.
