Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

The smile that danced across Taika’s features consumed her face and lit up her eyes. She could sense this was a wolf she would get along with well! Even as they both moved to explore the underbrush of the forest her tail instinctively began to wag at their games, even though they were supposed to be on an all important quest to find the fantasy creatures.

Though her nose was glued to the ground as she trotted around, the ‘mature’ female noticed Neverland’s uncertainty and confusion at not being able to find the scent of the fairies she spoke of. A small part of the woman’s heart broke and she knew she had to speak quickly, and speak well, to make sure this big pup’s belief in wonder would stay intact. She raced forward and spun again on her paw, apparently trying to perfect this maneuver so she stopped faceplanting in the ground.

“Yes! Most fairies love to play! But there are some mean and terrible creatures! Rock trolls try to capture fairy princes and princesses, keeping them from their homes and their families. Water spirits can be tricky! They invite you to play in the streams and the rivers, but they don’t always tell you how deep they are!” Panting, she walked up to the white wolf and nudged her kindly with her nose, the smile on her face mellowing to one of understanding and comfort. “Fairies have no scent, and their tracks are hard to find. If you let yourself see them, you will see them!” She sat, her haunches landing with a thump and her tail creating an echo of the sound against the dirt. Her attention moved pointedly to the trees above them. “Have you ever seen the wind blow the trees in a way that was unexpected? Or a rock seemed to move while you were looking at it? What about a ripple on the water that stood out from the rest? Have you listened to the crickets chirp and one just sounded…different?” Her smile grew again, hoping it would mollify the disappointment the young wolf had felt. “Those were the signs of the fairies! Most wolves just don’t pay attention!”

She jumped to her paws again and started down the trail. “They ride the rabbits so they can move faster!” Bounding through the forest she made sure to take the harder paths (if there was a path at all) to add a challenge to their venture. Every once and awhile she would jump out to make sure they still followed some semblance of a rabbit trail. At one point it might have switched to a squirrel. She didn’t much care, enjoying the searching game.
