Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

for wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;

It was bittersweet, returning to her homeland after so long away. The summer airs felt the same as it had when she was a pup. She remembered the heat, roaming around Diveen and getting irritated at Celeste for being too busy grooming herself to explore with her. Nothing felt the same, though. Too much time had passed, and while the borders of Diveen were the same, the scents were all wrong. Isola did not rule any longer, the same wolves did not call its borders home. It had been more than good to see her parents again, but even they could not make Diveen feel like it had when she was young.

And so she had left its borders again, after attempting to reassure her parents that she would not disappear like she had last time. She had no intentions of leaving Moladian again, at least not anytime soon. Nowhere else had felt like home either. So for now, Iophiel would stay. Perhaps these lands could turn into her home.

White paws had brought her from her birthplace down into the freelands, though she had no real goal in mind. The sound of running water had brought her to this place. While her mostly white coat did much to relieve her of the summer heat, even she could be tempted by the river’s cool whispers. She could not imagine how her mother felt in the summers with her dark coat. Thankfully, the darkness on her coat was confined to her underbelly. It mingled slightly upward on her face and tail, but it was little enough not to matter. She approached the water’s edge, her front paws submerged up to her ankles.

Gracefully, she lowered her delicate head to drink, pink tongue disrupting the running water slightly. Once she’d had her full, she found that she could not resist the cool of the stream and her well-muscled legs brought her further into the water, the black fur of her belly cool from the water, while her white upper body remained dry (if a little splashed), the angel dust across her shoulders catching the light well, the red almost shining under the sun’s gaze.

It was nice here, and yet it felt no more like home than Diveen did. Still, she did not find it in her to move far. After a few moments in the water, she turned back the way she had come, her wet coat clinging oddly to her lower body. After shaking herself, she trotted a few steps away to lie in the shade of a nearby tree, enjoying the laziness of the summer’s day.
