Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

are the dead really silent?

Our songs lifted into the air in beautiful harmony. Celebrating everything that we were; wild, free, and alive. The harmonies twined together as our bodies had just moments before. Only in song was my voice deep, calling forward the higher notes of the women who sang with me.

Called to them and comfortable with this company I curl up around them. Closing my eyes I take in their presence and their being. The older white pressed her face against me. She smells of a different male, almost of a different life. There is nothing between us save for a shared experience that for some meant everything, for others meant nothing. It was being one with the world and understanding that we were creatures of it, meant to live together and share in the harmonies of life songs. The brindled and colorful lady smelled of the earth and nature itself. Ties were not attached to her through scent. Like me, she was one of the earth around her, young and yet to live the life ahead of her.

They shared their names and my eyes slowly opened, peering through the various fur that my head was resting in. Was it their names they shared with me? Or their beings. Their names had come to be who they were. Given a title at birth and growing to have that word be their persona. They claimed they were these things, their lives had become encompassed by their names. “Sahmain.” I breath, rustling the fur that my face had nestled in. I shifted to look into the green eyes of the woman who had asked for my identity, but kept my body close to theirs, enjoying the closeness. It was a comfort I had not had in a long time. Soulmates? I could feel my own soul warm towards them. A connection that would not be broken. These souls deserved to live, and so they would to dance and sing more days. My eyes look back at the white woman I am laying against. I can see that part of her own soul had left, though had not gone far. Even so, she shined brought with the pulse of life she lived and had brought into the world. Once more I turn back to Paisley. “You both shine.” It does not answer her question. What is there to know. The change of the world could easily bring be back out of their lives. A blink slowly, feeling a tug deep within me. I look around at the souls that watch us, I feel their yearning as well. The pulse beats in my body. These two will be slow to join them, even in their age and their youth. These are dancers that must continue to step to the music.
