Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Do you believe in magic?

They moved through the trails, Taika occasionally dropping her nose to see if she could pick up a more masculine version of Coquette’s scent. Her search was half-hearted. If their brother had been in danger she was sure Coquette would have been more urgent instead of playing and talking. Her company was easy, the companionship a warmth that filled Taika. A smile grew as they trotted along the trails but she slows when her newfound sister’s happy air seemed to deflate. Concern slowed her further and pulled her closer to her sister’s creamy body. Her nose reached out, touching her gently on the shoulder, a comforting smile lighting her dancing eyes. She did not speak, but silently assured her she did not need to explain what the fire was, she was here to support her in the silence, or in the knowledge if she chose to share.

Taika’s movements stopped completely and she looked at Coquette with the utmost seriousness on her face. Her utter belief in magic compelled her to trust in a dream weaver as well. It was amazing to her that face would have brought this other woman into her life. There was a breath while she let her surprise sink into acceptance. I do, actually. She sat in preparation to speak of her dream.

I begin where they valley meets the fields. My fairy friends are dancing with me, as they do. They are flying about, laughing and singing with the leaves and the sounds of the world. One comes up to me, and he is wearing sticks and leaves around his head and over his body. He dances with me in the wind. The wind is howling and burning. It’s exciting and fast! But he steps away, dances with others, and comes back to me. It hurts, when he leaves, but when he comes back the dream is always brighter. In the distance, down the path I am dancing on is a large...shape. At first I think it is a rock spirit. But it doesn’t feel like a rock spirit, not like the ones who try to capture the fairies and keep them prisoner. It is more like...a stone. Or a mountain. But it moves, and it is in shadow. I cannot see what it is, but it is always there, and always in the distance. Her head tilted as if she, too were trying to figure out what her dream meant. The whole time I am dancing, but I’m afraid sometimes I forget the steps...
