A wet coat was such an inconvenience, especially with such slick fur as mine. It was an inherited trait. I was told all of my family had such lovely fur, lustrous and silky, but in the end I would be the most handsome of them all. Naturally, of course. I had been on the trail of an old doe most of the day, distracted by intertwining scents and the growing storm, and was put out when it had begun to rain. It quickly washed away the trail I had been on, my own growl not even heard over the crack of lightning and thunder. Not only would I fail to eat this day but I would also fail to remain dry as I turned swiftly on my paws to head back in the direction of the caverns I had seen earlier. I needed to get out before it got really bad but that didn't seem likely. Even as my legs stretched out the storm did too, letting loose a whole new fury that pelted me like knives. I grimaced as rain poked into my silver-blue eyes, almost slipping in the fast muddied ground as I dove to the side and headed towards the opening of the cave.
The water was thick here as it poured over the ledge, so much so that I didn't even notice the wolves until I ran inside and almost collided with a big gray and black brute. Shes gone, he snarls, staring at a young girl, and I prick my ears before glancing at the girl.
"Well buddy, I don't expect you'll be finding her anytime soon in this. Might as well settle down and get comfortable," I say in an off-hand manner, one ear cocked towards him as I begin to shake off my water (yes, likely onto everyone else) and grin. Still, there is a warning in my words and a wariness in my eyes as I glance back at him lest he try to assault the girl for no reason. You know, there are crazies out there.
