Autumn was in full swing and Isolde found herself loving it. The world had exploded into a vast array of colors from burning red to vibrant yellow. In the distance, the mountains of Spirane bloomed with a pallet of hues that made her smile. The chill in the air did little to lower her spirits as each breath brought a plume of smoke. Many thought that autumn brought death, but Isolde saw nothing but life as she wandered through Moladion. Small mammals ran to and fro as they tried to gather seeds and nuts for the winter. Bears gorged themselves on the salmon the swam up the rivers to give birth to the next generation. Wolves hunted the caribou who were beginning to migrate back into the warmer lands. No, this time of the year brought more life than most and it made the russet girl smile.
However, the distant clouds that rumbled did not allow that smile to last long. She had smelled the storm on the wind for a while but had happily ignored it until it was upon on her. In an instant, the sun was swallowed up and the land was cast into a gloomy shadow. Strong gusts blew the top of trees wildly and a clap of thunder echoed after the lightning lit up the skies. The lone wolfess ran through the storm, trying to find shelter from the freezing rain. Her fur was soaked at once, causing her to shiver violently as the wind sliced her body.
Finally, a haven from the downpour appeared in the form of the grotto. The dark caves beckoned for her and she gladly allowed them to swallow her. Dripping and shaking, Isolde shook herself hard to rid her pelt of the cold water that clung to her. With a deep sigh, she sat at the entrance of the den, watching the storm carry on, oblivious to the beautiful day it had just ruined. How nice it would be to have another to curl up with now, to keep warm with, to talk with. Funny, it wasn’t until she found herself alone in the middle of a storm that she felt truly lonely. With another sigh, dark eyes watched mournfully at the wet world outside the cave, silently hoping someone would come to her.
