Paws inched forward until the young wolfess was standing on the very edge of her old home. Desperately, she wanted to run on the plains again, to chase the butterflies with her siblings and dig holes with the ground hogs. But no, it could not be. Not anymore. The borders were marked by a stranger and other wolves called this place home now. Isolde whined quietly to herself then took a few steps back. Sitting patiently on her haunches, she waited for her call to be answered. It didn’t take long. A deep, haunting howl answered her call and echoed in the air for several seconds before fading away. She couldn’t hold back the shudder that rippled down her spine. What kind of alpha ruled the plains now? Tales of the white fiend who had defeated her mother in battle told that the pack fell into ruin for a time before a mysterious loner came forward to rebuild the pack to its former glory. Certainly a wolf like that couldn’t be bad… right? She gulped heavily.
Suddenly, the dark figure appeared in the distance and Isolde stood up and offered a little wag of her tail to show she meant no harm nor did she intend to trespass. Finally, at long last, a child of the former rulers had come to meet with the Monster. What a monster she was. The red girl couldn’t stop herself from thinking it. The scared face, the looming figure, the powerful aura that radiated off of her like hot rays of the sun. Without realizing it, Isolde found herself taking a few more steps back and tucking her tail low. This was not a wolf to anger!
For a moment, they look at each other, sizing one another up. At long last, the alphess spoke, her words short and to the point. The ex-princess took a moment to find her voice before bowing her head slightly and clearing her throat nervously. "H-hello, Alpha. Yes, I did call. Thank you for coming to meet me. I am I-Isolde, daughter of Iblis and Rhae." She paused a moment to see if the queen would say anything, then continued. "I have come to see what has become of my homeland after the white one murdered my mother."
It seemed like an innocent enough request. She had no desire to reclaim the plains as she knew, now more than ever, that she could never fight against a wolfess as might as the dark woman before her. Why would anyone want to fight against her? She gave a kind smile, hiding her thoughts, and shuffled nervously, waiting to see how her request would be handled.
