Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

a silver tongue cannot hide a dark heart

At just over six months old, Argento was growing up quickly. He had come a long way from the spindly little thing his mother had given birth to, having filled out and partially grown into his long legs, and developed the beginnings of thick muscle beneath his multicolored coat. While his dark mane was still short and fluffy, Argento's tail was becoming long and silky, and he was beginning to grow the slighest hint of feathering on his crisp white fetlocks. He liked to look at his reflection sometimes, admiring the curve of his neck or the spots on his hindquarters, and wondering what handsome stallion he had inherited his looks from.

But internally Argento would always be a child. His blue eyes were forever sparkling with mischief, and he never had the patience to stand around doing nothing like his mother and older brother did. He was forever on the move, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

Thankfully, his older brother was still young enough to humor him most of the time when he desired a playmate (which was often). Though somewhat less of a risk-tasker than Argento, Diamant relished the chance to have a good-natured tussle or a race across the slopes, and it was the latter that Argento had challenged him to on this fine autumn afternoon.

Though only a year and a half old, Diamant was much bigger and slower on his feet, and so as usual Argento was well out of his brother's sights before long, cruising at a leisurely canter along the ridges and foothills of the peak. Though it was beginning to grow chilly with winter on the horizon, Argento did not feel it. When he was running and his blood was singing with heat and energy, it could be as cold as it liked.

Soon enough his peripheral vision caught sight of something red, and the colt almost continued right past it until his brain registered that the thing was, in fact, another horse. It was then that Argento slid to a halt, kicking up pebbles and flaring his nostrils to catch his breath. He looked down on the valley that stretched before him, watching the horse follow a rocky trail straight in his direction. Someone new! How exciting.

With hardly a second thought, the colt descended the slopes with all the swiftness and agility of a mountain goat. He made straight for the stranger, and when he had reached her he flashed a wide, friendly smile and whisked his dark little tail across his hindquarters. His pale face was open and fearless.

"Hi! You're new around here, aren't you? I haven't seen you here before, I mean. I'm right, aren't I?"
