Jetta

A shrill whinny pierced her ears, but - disoriented as she was - Jetta did not react to it right away. It was only after her dizziness had begun to subside that the mare lifted her head and opened her eyes to realize that the sound had not been a figment of her imagination; it was Macabre, trotting briskly across the sand toward her like a copper-colored vision. Jetta squeezed her blue eyes shut for a moment, but when she opened them again, her friend was still there. She was, most thankfully, real.

The young mare's heart soared quite suddenly as her friend reached her and touched her shoulder. Unable to contain her joy, Jetta laughed with merriment stretched her pale nose out to return the gesture. It had been too long since they had last seen each other, since Jetta had promised to visit her all that time ago, but she was pleased to find that the time and distance had not severed their bond at all.

"A bit tired from the swim, but I'm all right," Jetta reassured her friend. Her head still swam, but at this point it was more of an annoyance than a real concern, and it was nothing she had not dealt with before. Pulling back a step or two, the young mare took a moment to look Macabre over, to ascertain that her friend was in good condition. Macabre was small and lean as she had always been, but otherwise she appeared to be healthy and cared for, which was somewhat reassuring. Jetta still remembered Macabre complaining about the stallion she had been living with, and had always secretly worried her friend was being abused.

"I didn't forget that I said I would visit you," she informed Macabre with a soft smile. "I'm just sorry it took me so long. How are you? Are you well?"
