The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.
This is no ordinary love

The young mare followed him without making much of a fuss. As they emerged into the cool waves of the ocean, part of her felt some relief knowing she was leaving the Crossing behind her. At least whatever was coming next meant she wouldn't be sleeping alone against a fallen tree trunk anymore and waking up in a panic every time she heard the snap of a twig through the darkness of the night. In a more traditional suitor situation, Nova most likely would have felt excited and nervous about traveling to meet new horses and see her new home. But this time the mare was just ready to get it over with. She was ready to start over somewhere new.

Nova had never been to Salem. As the island loomed into view she thought about how excited she had been when she first returned to the islands. This being after she had left her mother behind on the mainlands and before she realized her father, Valentine, was gone. She was beaming with a sense of adventure back then. She wanted to explore every island and make dozens of new friends. That all changed, of course, when she met Nephilim.

So maybe Koray was her chance to start over. The mare breathed out heavily as she weighed this. Perhaps Nephilim was merely a distraction, something she'd remember later as a brief rough patch, a life lesson. She didn't need to be in love with Koray to appreciate the opportunity he'd given her. It was time to focus on herself. It was time to do what she wanted do with her life.

By the time the pair emerged onto the shoreline of the Desert, Nova felt like a new mare. She'd spent the remainder of the swim giving herself the internal pep talk and doing her best to wipe Nephilim and lingering grief for the way things ended from her mind. She was going to be OK, she told herself over and over. The steel-colored mare shook a layer of salt water from her coat and moved delicately to stand by Koray. Her striking blue eyes surveyed the rocks and the sand that stretched out across the horizon. She'd never seen anything quite like it before.

"What makes it so hot here?" She asked with genuine interest. Clearly all the islands had their own range in climate and topography. But Tinuvel, her former home, wasn't that far away. She was bewildered by the vast difference in each island's geography. "This place couldn't be more different than the Bay."

Nova was too wrapped up in her own thoughts, the incessant chipper voice in her head reminding her to be happy on repeat, to pay much attention to Koray's impatience and general disinterest in her company. She just assumed by now this was the way he was always going to be. But when he stopped short and asked her a question, she let her blue eyes study him fiercely, perhaps for the first time since she'd spotted him in the meadow.

"I can't wait." She said almost sarcastically, but with a wry smile across her lips.
