News 08.08.2021
Change was long overdue in Spirane. Now that I have learned who is still an active presence within the pack, the ranks have been updated. As I once took time away from the pack, so too now shall Kalseru. Know that she is still second in command of the pack, as is reflected in her rank. Once you are familiar with the new ranking system, if you would like to change positions or move up in the ranks you need only ask. Let this be a time of new life in Spirane, and a promise of great things to come!

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

Two young wolves sat before Sleekwing as he spoke, and he recognized them both. As a constant presence in Spirane, and a vigilant eye on the pack's wellbeing and safety, there was not a wolf who had been born to the mountains in the many years of his residency that he did not know the face of. Or at least, Sleekwing assumed as much. Niviaq's last litter had been no exception, and he had noticed when Rhett had vacated the mountain and Aviaq had gone her own way as well. According to his own daughter, Sila was training to heal alongside her beneath the tutelage of Niviaq. It was Baird, though, who sat before him now - a wolf who had been born and raised within the peaks, and had remained. Sleekwing did not know much about the young male other than his name, but the look in his eyes as he spoke was enough to pique his interest in the apprentice. Then there was Nymeria, his niece, who he knew fairly well. Feisty from birth and filled with a spirit that reminded him of his own grandmother, Sleekwing knew there was promise within her - but for what he could not be sure. She had left the mountains with her mother in the wake of her loss, but she was back now and clearly ready to learn whatever lesson was to be offered this day. Sleekwing's words did not deter either pupil, and once he was finished speaking he cast a last glance back up towards the mountains for any latecomers, before motioning to the two young wolves to come with him.

He picked up a long legged jog, a stride that did not move too fast nor too slow, reserving energy and yet covering ground. The heather marked male seemed almost to float across the terrain that was so familiar to him, and for a while he moved in silence. Yet if his two students were paying attention, they would see the way his ears twitched and his nostrils flared, eyes roving all around before him, taking note of every detail. After a short while, he slowed to a walk. There was nothing immediately apparent about the stretch of borderline that would raise any alarm or reason to stop, but there was something ahead that had caught Sleekwing's attention and he thought it was worth imparting a bit of knowledge on the duo before he came upon it. "In times of peace, border patrol is the most important duty of those in the armament - and the Castellan. I know every inch of our borders, from the headwaters of the Aplos to which trees belong to us and which to Taviora in the north." He looked to Baird and Nymeria in turn as he spoke, giving them each equal attention, for he wanted them both to take as much away from this lesson as possible. "Patrol can seem a mundane task, but it is important. Why is that?" He knew the importance of engaging them to help them learn, and wanted to learn a little more about each of them and if they had a mind for the duties of the Castellan. It wasn't all brawling and chasing off predators - the day to day stuff was just as important, if not more so than the exciting and life threatening encounters.

As they began to close in on the thing that had caught Sleekwing's attention, he passively made sure to keep his focus on the wolves who walked with him. Whether or not they would notice the stale and now nearly scentless pile of mountain lion defecation camouflaged within the foliage remained to be seen. It had been left there some time ago, and Sleekwing had long since informed Daenerys of the increased activity of the tawny cats, but it was a prime learning opportunity for the two students.
